We learned about Ukraine; we talked about what war is, why people have to leave their country, and what it means to be a refugee. Our children created a worksheet where they answered the question, "What do they see, what do they feel?" from their own perspectives. Through this activity, we supported their skills in empathy, respecting different lives, and expressing their feelings. 💛

We talked with our children about the lives of refugees forced to flee war. We reflected on how precious a "warm home" is for people who have had to leave their homes. We discussed the importance of countries welcoming them and together we explored the question, "What can we do for them?"

With this activity, we aimed to strengthen our children's empathy, sharing, and helping others. 💛

My students and I had a meaningful conversation about the concept of "refugee." We discussed how people are sometimes forced to leave their homes due to war, natural disasters, or difficult circumstances. Through this process, our children empathized with what refugees might feel. Then, together, we explored the question, "What should be in a refugee's bag?" Based on an image we saw online, our children shared their own ideas. Their heartfelt and sensitive suggestions deeply moved us. The bag should contain basic necessities like fruit, clothes, and water, as well as coloring books and crayons to make the children happy. Because, thinking "They should be happy too," the children thought most about games and colors. Based on these wonderful ideas, we prepared a "refugee bag" in our classroom. The big thoughts that came from our children's little hearts once again showed how valuable sharing and kindness are.
