• It is possible that Barrymore was the one spying on Sir Henry, because his wife could have been lying on where he was.

Also, after talking to people, the dog owner could be Mr. Stapleton. Mr. Barrymore could have gotten the boot, so he wouldn't suspect Mr. Stapleton. Beryl came running out to warn him about what his brother was gonna do, but when he came out she stopped talking.
