I have guided students through various works/projects from idea to final piece, acting as a reliable point of contact throughout, working unsupervised and on my own initiative in helping to guide them through the process. This experience of working with students with IRF’s has been extremely rewarding and has taught me a great deal about working with students from diverse backgrounds. It has also made me further aware of issues that exist for them and as a result I have developed a flexible approach, an ability to tailor their experience and, where possible, to anticipate needs or concerns

There has to be an acknowledgement that H&S protocols are not there to be experimented with - yet materially, we want to encourage this.
Historically, this has created huge problems (in my opinion) with technicians being seen as heavy handed or unwelcoming. They do though, have a responsibility for the safety of the student as well as those who are working around them too.
I hope to try develop a more open approach to working with such issues yet still encouraging a sense of experimentation and 'play' within the workshop.
