April 20 1999, two teens named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold planted a propane bomb in the school cafeteria before lunch break, setting the detonation to 11:17, waiting outside was Eric and Dylan in their car, for the other students to run out and then start shooting, but the bomb didn't explode so Eric and Dylan walked in dressed in trench coats, and began shooting towards the cafeteria they killed 12 students and 1 teacher and injured 24, the students that lost their lives was between 14-18 years old, when the time hit 12 they turned the gun to their own head and pulled the trigger.

Columbine High School reopened in the fall of 1999, but the massacre left a scar on the Littleton community. Mark Manes, the man who sold a gun to Harris and bought him 100 rounds of ammunition the day before the murders, was sentenced to six years in prison. Another man, Philip Duran, who introduced Harris and Klebold to Manes, also was sentenced to prison time. Some victims and families of people killed or injured filed suit against the school and the police; most of these suits were later dismissed in court. Debate about gun control: "The Columbine shootings have energized the gun-control debate, and moreover, they have given the emotional edge to the gun-control advocates. There is some speculation about if the any gun-control law could have prevented the columbine tragedy, or for that matter reduce gun crimes. Eric was 18 years old when the shooting took place. As a child, he moved around a lot due to his father's job as a transport pilot. Harris first emotional outbreak took place when he was dumped by his homecoming date. He didn't take it well, and faked his own suicide. He later wrote in her yearbook "I am God" in German. His father was aware of his son's emotional problems and began to write his sons behavior down in a journal.   
 
Dylan Klebold: 
Dylan was 17 years old when the shooting took place. He grew up in religious surroundings and was extremely intelligent and went to a program called CHIPS (Challenging High Intellectual

The two teens met each other at Ken Caryl Middle School. They were very unpopular and often targets for bullying. Later they would bully the younger students. Harris was the leader, and Klebold just followed he didn't like bullying. In 1997 Harris made a death threat to one of his classmates and got a reported complaint by the student's father. In 1998, they were both arrested for trespassing and send to psychiatric treatment and anger management. Harris was already on antidepressant. On the outside, they played calm but on the inside, they were filled with anger. 
 
Erik and Dylan made a video where they pretended to shoot other students with fake guns. They threaten people who would mess with them, and the violence was a very big part of the teens identity. 
They both began working at a pizza shop where they met a man who sold them the pistols that they used at the massacre. 
 
The teens motive has been discussed a lot but the main reasons for the massacre are revenge and sadism. It was revenge for all the bullying they went through and their colliding with the law enforcement. They were both diagnosed with psychic diseases. Harris as a psychopath and Klebold as a manic-depressive.
