The plague is caused by poisoned air. There were two main means of prevention, one was to burn all aromatic herbs and wood to counter foul atmosphere. After this they would fill their houses with delightful smelling plants and flowers they also sprinkle the floor with vinegar and rosewater. People who lived in that time often carried pleasant smelling concoctions when they leave their homes. The main means of treatment were prayer and other religious acts as medieval people believed strongly in religion

mass burials were the result of large groups of the population who surrendered to the wrath of the plague. The name of the places where these people are buried is called the plague pit. when people started dropping dead on the streets others started to realize that there was no more place in the cemeteries (under consecrated land) for them to bury the deceased the result of this led to mass burials which looked like a temporary solution to keep corpses under holy land. the only consequence was that many must share the same ground.

Biblically, plagues have always been known as the divine punishment by God an example of an early biblical plague were the ten plagues bought on the Pharoah by God in the story of Moses. The plague was a global pandemic that wiped out a large number of the worlds population. It begins with a flea biting a rat, leaving remnants of the rats blood in its body it then goes and bites a person transferring the yersinia pestis bacteria beginning the cycle of a slow and painful death. The plague csn be traced back to China approxiamately 2000 years ago making it where historians believe the plague began, through trading fleas living on the backs of rats travelled by boats infecting the dwellers of each stop. eventually after a number of years the plague has spread half way around the world only to continue until the human population lives on a piece of string.

There is debate about how many deaths occurred during the reign of the black death. Medicalnewstoday has commented that 100 million died because of the pestilence, while themiddleages.net argues 25 million, on the other hand historytoday says 50 million. So what does this tell us? This tells us that historians are unsure about the total number of deaths during the middle ages caused by plague.

The infected were doomed to living not much longer. therefore no man wanted a worker who could drop dead at any minute when a strong healthy man is just right around the corner. This made it hard for the infected to have jobs and to earn money or land possibly sentencing their family and themselves to a life of poverty (if they were to live). it also made it hard for them to stay as healthy as possible considering they had no money to buy food let alone medicinal products.

Towns and cities suffered terribly, starvation was very common. Many towns began to starve because it was work to tend to animals and crops, and too many of the workers were busy dying from the effects of plague. The peasants who survived became wealthy as they decided to go and work for lords who needed to produce their harvest but hadn't any workers. So in this way the whole social hierachy was tipped upside down. Also those with weaker immune systems were the ones who caught the plague while those with stronger immune systems did not. Leaving society with a population of people who will live longer than their ancestors.
