•The shield of the Irish capital has a field of azure (blue heraldic) that symbolizes the water that surrounded the ancient walls of the city. The three burning castles are silver (white), donjonados (with three towers each being the highest central) and are well placed (two at the top and one at the bottom). There is no agreement on its symbolism: it has been defended that it may be the Castle of Dublin repeated three times, three towers of the old walls or three doors that gave access to the Viking settlement. In the most well-known seal of the city, dated in the thirteenth century, it appears for the first time represented its castle.
