J. K., who stands for Joanne Kathleen, was born in Yate in England. After university she moved to London as a bilingual researcher and secretary. One day she took a train and it was at that moment that the character of Harry Potter came to mind. She then began writing the first novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and concluded it five years later, in 1995. After years she moved back to Edinburgh. In 1997 she presented his book to a very famous publishing house, the "Bloomsbury", which decided to publish his novel making it successful and bringing it to the drafting of new chapters of the saga.

In this pub Rowling wrote almost the entire Harry Potter saga. As she was very poor, she preferred to sit at a table in a corner overlooking the Castle, to find inspiration. She only spent a pound on something hot and stayed there a whole day, rather than staying home and having to pay for heating and electricity.

Currently the door handle is decorated with an owl. The architecture of the building is Victorian, influenced by the traditional Scottish baronial style.

This cemetery is considered one of Edinburgh's most visited attractions. This place is full of stories and legends, it seems to be one of the most haunted places in the world: full of ghosts and tormented souls. Here Rowling was inspired by the creation of many characters from the saga through the dead:
- William McGonagall, a Scottish poet who has not found much success, in fact is considered the worst poet in the world. In the saga became Minerva McGonagall, the transfiguration professor;
- Elizabeth Moodie became Alastor Moody, the professor of the fourth year of defense against the dark arts;
- Margaret Louisa Scrymgeour Wedderburn became our minister of magic Rufus Scrimgeur;
- Thomas Riddell became "He who can not be named", "the dark lord": Tom Marvolo Riddle alias Lord Voldemort.
