Tris is determined to uncover the truth from Marcus and will not stop until she has what she wants. She is strong willed and very stubborn in that way, but she gets what she wants in this way.

Throughout the novel, Tris puts herself in situations where she is defenseless and likely to die, but she is being brave and saving other lives when doing so. Tobias sees her acts as reckless and foolish. He does not want her to die from saving others and he tells her that their relationship will end if she continues these things because it is simply too much to bear. She continues these "reckless" acts because she believes putting herself before others is the most important thing. "Sometimes,' he says quietly, 'it isn't easy to be with you Tris'" (Roth, 161).

The climax of the novel is at the very end, when the secret messaged in unveiled after Jeanine's death. The message tells us that there is a world outside of their society. Their secluded community was made as an experiment, to save humanity. The people in the community who would save it are the Divergent, which goes against everything Jeanine believed in. The women delivering the message in the video is Edith Prior, an ancestor of Tris's family.

After the message is revealed at the end of the novel, there is a moment of silence, and then "the shouting begins". This is not only the resolution to this novel, but the cliffhanger leading to the next and final novel in the trilogy. The shouting could represent the freedom that everyone feels at that moment. For many years, all those people thought that confiding to one faction was the way one succeeded in life. When they found this was all a lie, they all felt the freedom of being able to be themselves, which is however many traits or no defining traits at all.

"'I trusted you,' he says, his body shaking with rage. 'I trusted you and you abandoned me to work with him ?'"(Roth, 502). Tobias has very strong and negative feelings towards his father, after his father was abusive to him and his mother for many years. He thought that he could trust Tris to be his family, but she went behind his back to work with his father.

Brave talks about a person who doesn't know how to come out of their shell and say what they truly fell. However, if they did say what was on their minds, their life would be much easier and happier. Tris relates to this because she is not used to being herself and doing things for herself, but she find that things are better when she trusts herself and speaks her mind.
