Character, in many ways, is discipline. Discipline to do the work to identify, understand, and articulate personal values, and then the discipline to prioritize those values even when your innate tendencies might be screaming to do otherwise.

I think I have an intrinsic instinct to serve people, especially family and friends. I think this instinct aligns with my character, as one of my key values is empathy. However, sometimes I am suspicious of others' intent, which makes me instinctually critical of when others try to help me. I think my character allows me to overcome that instinct and allow others to show their care and/or empathy towards me.
