This women’s college decided to give them a chance.  While at this college, some of these young women performed well academically and socially. When they begin to apply for admission, most are not accepted at colleges and universities because of their poor academic performance. Therefore, some apply to smaller institutions ore institutions that was not their first choice. 
Some post-secondary institutions have chosen to admit these students based on certain conditions.  They are referred to as provisionally admitted students. When these students are accepted and enter the schools provisionally, they are asked to participate in first year programs where they will be advised and mentored for academic success.

First year programs - a program at a college or university designed to assist first year students to transition from high school to post-secondary.
Resilience - the capacity to recover from difficulties.
Provisionally Admission - admission to a post-secondary institution subject to verifying various academic records or maintaining a certain grade point average.
Self-Efficacy - an individual's belief in his or her innate ability to achieve goals.
