My first observation was in 4th year. They are 15 teens, all of them with different level of English.
The teacher was in the last class of comparatives and superlatives, they worked with their books of English. For the ones who didn´t bring the book the teacher made them copy the exercises on the board. She told me that it is some kind of punishment for the students who don´t bring the material.
What I observed was that there were some students who hadn´t absolutely no interest in the subject. They were almost sleeping on their desks ans they didn´t want to participate in the class. What I also observed was that they were scattered by all the classroom.
Some of them followed the teacher with the activities and some of them not. The teacher spoke in Spanish most all the time...

Practicum: Lesson 1

¨Taking out the child we all have inside¨
Today, november 1st was my first practicum at secondary school. But I have to say that it was different because I had an idea of the group, I know the teens, I know how they are. The only doubt was if they would like my activities. I entered into the classroom greeting them. I called the attendance and filled the books of the classroom. After that I had to explain why I was with them and for how long we will work together.
We started forming the definition of the simple past, matching different chunks to complete the definition. After that we studied regular and irregular verbs. Then I explained that we were going to play a game. So I took out my memory game and I explained how to proceed. They first watched suspiciously but after that they got involved and when I realized, even the shinest girl in the class asked me to play the game. Then we worked with a worksheet completing the sentences with the missing verbs from our memory game. We checked the excercises and the time flew away. Thinking for a while this is a part of the lesson that I considered successful because they were like kids, playing and even having some fun. I found useful to bring them activities like games and I think that this kind of resource will help me plan the next lesson

The quotation I choose to represents an event in this lesson is "Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning" The strategy of playing games during the lessons I consider very successful because I could see that I could catch their attention and they were always willing to play. In this lesson we played a When the music stops game, while the music played, they had to pass the box to the mate next to him/her and when I stopped the music they had to answer to a mate who played the rule of interviewer and answer questions using the past expressions learned before in class.
I believe that teens reacted very enthusiastically to my teaching and actvitites because they asked me to do more things and they always helped me when I asked them to.
I believe that, when it is possible, we should try to incorporate interesting and varied activitites.

This is the lesson that I have to improvise. My lesson plan was pretty disastrous and the teacher asked me to correct it and think to teach in context.
So I made a corrected plan (I called this way) and started thinking what I wanted to do last weekend as a starting point to teach the simple past.
This class I taught the negative form so faced the lesson by telling first what I wanted to do and then what I didn´t do. This part of the lesson I explained with a poster with some drawings for students to understand.
After that we played a game. I divided teens in four groups and in one minute and while as explossion and bomb countdown music played, they had to form sentences in the negative way. They really enjoyed and had fun.

My last lesson started with a worksheet where students had to work on three activities always focused in the simple past.
We did a listening ativity first, and after that we worked with a survey report where they had to answer some questions about it. In the last activity they had to complete a short text with verbs in their simple past form. What I have to say is that I felt a bit frustrated because when they had to make the exercises on their own. most of them were not able to change the verbs into the past form or make correctly the sentences in the negative form. They constantly needed help of the teacher..
The picture below is a part of the lesson that all of us enjoyed. Like kids the always asked me for what we were going to play that lesson.
The photo below is one of the funniest part of the game because teens had to roll the dice and expect to what came next. There were times when they had to mime and they all laughed.
