At the start of the story, Sarah is obsessed with this idea of only having original thoughts or only doing original things, and she stresses this many, many times. There are good things that happened to me in my childhood that I don't remember because the bad things overshadowed them. It's one of those books that I think everyone can relate to at least a little bit. Whether it's the parts about living in a broken home, or the parts about questioning your identity. The chorus especially makes me think of Sarah, It goes:

I'm just wasting time in space"
