         <description><![CDATA[<div><sub>Hopkins was born in Sioux City Iowa in 1890. In 1912, he graduated from college and started working as a social worker in New York City’s lower east side ghetto. During WWII, he acted as FDR’s ambassador to Winston Churchill and Joesph Stalin, was the administrator for the Lend Lease Program in 1941, and was the figure behind FDR at the Big Three Conferences. In December 1938, Hopkins joined the cabinet as the secretary of commerce. He died on January 29, 1946 from hemochromatosis.</sub></div>]]></description>
