It shows that even though rich white men started this issue of slavery, there are also good people too, who want to help tell their story(African slaves).
I feel like this story is empowering because it shows that that there are good people, and that John wants other to know the truth about how poor the slaves were treated.

This video elicited a lot of feelings of sadness. I knew that the conditions of enslaved people coming into the Americas by boat was cruel, but actually seeing the diagram of HUMAN BEINGS crammed into a ship like animals made me feel disgusted. I felt so sorry. I also am upset and wondering why plantations are visited for enjoyment today. People glorify it as a positive part of history and use it as a fun tourist attraction, when in reality, it is a place that hurt people. It is a place that broke people. Plantations should be used as a piece of history that we all learn from instead of celebrating it. I thought it was a good point that Germany is ashamed of its Nazi history, and they make it a point to teach their people of how that was wrong. Similarly, this museum is showcasing slavery's faults. However, across the rest of the United States, this may not be the case.

This video made me feel a lot of sadness after seeing just a small sliver of what it was like for enslaved Africans to be alive in that era. I think that one of the main reasons why this side of history isn't talked about or acknowledged very much is because of how a majority of people in power are still White men who grew up learning the false histories of White heroes who blessed Black people by bringing them against their will to America. It's the same people who buy into that story who get to decide what we learn. It's up to us to go out of our way to learn about the truth and keep real history alive. This museum is one way to preserve the history of enslaved peoples and if more people were willing to invest in teaching others about the lives of enslaved Africans, the dominant/false narrative would be erased.

One of her ancestors were literally sold away and to be never seen again.

I think the opening of the Whitney Plantation is very powerful similar to Germany's Holocaust museum. This made me interested in the video because the country is not only themselves accountable, but also educating everyone on the true history of the event. I really liked John J. Cummings line, "... education is the most powerful tool we have." Learning the truths of enslavement would help the U.S. accept the history and grow from it. I appreciate Dr. Ibrahima Seck's work in telling individual stories.

But excluding the video, I feel confuse overall about why they can’t just teach us the truth about slavery from the beginning. I know the truth is distorting, but I think it is better for us to learn the truth either way. Germany for example is ashame of the holocaust, but we don’t see them lying about them. Instead they learned from it and acknowledged it. And we should do the same thing.
