Why use task cards...

When you research the topic you will find many good reasons to use task cards. I feel everyone will have their own why. Some teachers do not like using task cards and some do, just like any other strategy out there.

Task cards are new to me, but I have found I can use them in any content area. My favorite thing about them is everyone has a role or purpose in the group.

There are so many ways to use task cards, test prep, homework, partner work, exit tickets, and the list goes on.

Since math is my content area, I am going to tell you how I use them in math. I like to use them in a group size of four, if numbers are off I would less per group instead of more. We have a reader who reads the problem, an interpreter to restate the problem in their own words, a solver who works on the answer and a checker who checks to make sure the answer is correct. They will each get a sheet with the problem on it and space to work out the answer. The solver is in charge of coming up with the answer, but they all work on it so they can get the practice and to make sure it is being done correctly. I don't typically grade they problems, but they will get participation points. I often use task cards as test review, we draw for teams, and I let them decide who gets what role on the team.
