As we read and watch Othello together, I think that we should keep in mind how the play was written hundreds of years ago. Some of the content in this play deals with racial slurs, and back then people didn't see a problem with it. I think that we should be aware on how this is completely inappropriate.

We should of course keep in mind that it was a different time period when we read the words and their actions in the play. Society has changed and women and African Americans can be actors and actresses now, but that just wasn't accepted by society at the time. To me it almost seemed like she blamed it on Shakespeare for not letting women and African Americans act, but that probably wasn't something he could control. Women weren't allowed to act at the time and Shakespeare has created many strong female roles in his plays.

To begin to wonder if his reasoning behind this character description was the product of proving his point of using an African American character to portray the feeling of being "the other" knowing an actually person of colored skin wouldn't be able to perform the role.
