I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am extremely passionate about education and have known I wanted to be in this field all of my life. I will be a first year, third grade teacher in the fall. So exciting! I would love to eventually work at the college level, where I could encourage, advise, and inspire young adults.

One Assignment that I am excited for this semester is creating and constructing the Benchmark Final Project. I can't wait to see it all come together in the end.

For as long as we have known, becoming an educator in administration has always been a process that involves being a highly qualified person for the position. However, ASCD is suggesting we take a different and more personal approach, “tapping the talent.” This is like an induction idea, suggesting that teachers who already work on the campus and who demonstrate leadership skills and qualities should be asked to move up/enter into administration roles. This could be done through signing up for an administration certification program or even involving meetings that equipt teachers for the administration responsibilities. This article goes on to discuss other leadership positions within schools as well, such as team leaders, department chairs, assistant principals, principals and more. By all taking on shared leadership roles and responsibilities, it can make for a more effective, positive, respected, and productive learning environment. If everything was not riding in the hands of the upper administration, there would be more educators willing to take on these positions and less turnover rates as well.

I chose this this image for to represent my video because it is showing that anyone can have average leadership, but in order to build on and succeed in great leadership you must have soft skills. Soft skills such as humility, grit, communication, empathy, and creativity.

All teachers, administrators, coaches, etc. should be active in listening, responding, considering other perspectives as well as be visible and accessible. Another important factor that I believe plays into this idea is that in order to have a successful and effective learning environment,  principles and administration should not be fully in charge of instructional leadership responsibilities. These responsibilities should be shared and trusted with other individuals who demonstrate good leadership. It truly takes a team to make everything work and run on a school campus!
