Todays session was excellent. I enjoyed the role play activity . It was effective because we had an opportunity to talk about what we have learned. I will use this activity both my classes and my PDC meeting. I am working with young learners i think it will be hard for me to manage if i make small groups like with 2 or 3 students. I would change the numbers of the groups and numbers of the participants of the groups. And i would make the activity one by one group. Thanks to that students would have the opportunity to listen all of the ideas of the class.

Think about the 4 stages for the during listening we looked at today (Songs and chants):
Why are they structured in that order?
Pre and the next 3 stages are for getting the students ready for the topic slowly. It helps students to get focused on the subject. With the help of the first three stages students get closer to the subject step by step. This structure is like a construction. In every step you put a new and more challenging brick to the building. this structure is important because learning needs a good plan and a substructure.

How does the order help the students?
This order is well planned because it starts with an easy activity and it gets harder step by step. It gives time to students to digest the information. It helps their readiness.

What does the drilling stage help the students do better?
Students start to catch the ryhme and memorize some of the lines thanks to repeating. They get ready to sing the song or the chants. They start to learn the song better in that stage.

What needs to be adapted most in your course books to help children improve their listening skills?
Listen and repeat activities should be removed. Listening materials should be more comprehensive. Materials should be short and clear. Some of the tracks are long and students losts their attention.

I have only one year of teaching experience. This education taught me a lot of things so far. First of all I have learned the difference between a teacher, a lecturar, a trainer and a facilitator. I developed a different point of view about my job. Teaching young learners always seemed hard for me. But now I have learned how can I attract their attention and make them focused on the subject. I understand that being well-prepared for the sessions is very important. My ideas about the course books are also changed. It was easy for me to making harsh criticism before but now I have experienced that even writing a short activity needs a powerfull brainstorm.
With the light of the our sessions I will bring fun to my classes. These sessions helped me to understand the needs of the young learners. I had a prejudgement about the group works but now I can see how effective and important it is.

Do you think Shared Reading is a suitable procedure to use with L2 children? Why/ why not?
I think its suitable because it brings fun to reading. Using enjoyable materials is really important for young learners for keep them focused on the subject. Its interactive thats also keep them focused. With the help of the teacher they get a chance to learn correct pronounciation of the words. Students learn different reading strategies from the teacher. Peer work increases their motivation and confidence. They get rid of the fear of the making mistakes thanks to shared reading. The reason why such a method is effective is because L2 learners can develop their speaking skills by responding to the teacher’s prompts. This method prepares children to reading on their own. Teacher can assist the comprehention.

1- Are there any tips or techniques from the sessions today that you could use to manage your PDC’s positively?
Arranging settler and stirring activities is a good tip for me. Taking feedback from the participants is a really good idea. I could use Chinese whisper and Running dictation activities in my PDC sessions.

2-Are there any other elements of classroom management in your PDC’s that you will have to think about?
I have to think about setting up rules of the classroom. Planning is the critical part of the class management i think. I have to use simple and clear language. Giving them a meaningful aim is essential.
