Bardugo was born in Jerusalem and raised in Los Angeles, California. After her mother remarried when she was young, Bardugo changed homes and schools and this experience had a permanent effect on her development personally and in the books she would create. Her heroes are complex and flawed. Her books have been translated into 22 languages and published in over 50 countries.
