Pleasure Reading

I would predict that most teenagers would read Leigh Bardugo's novels for pleasure. Her characters, their dialogue, and themes in her books are rich, dynamic, adventurous, and will encourage the mature young adult to spend more time on her pages than perhaps reading something more academic. Having Bardugo's books in a school library would be beneficial in encouraging conversations around development of stories and encouraging relationships between mentor and mentee through a shared love of reading.

The age range I feel is most appropriate for Bardugo's books would be a mature 14- 18 years of age. There is the archetypical identity struggle present in many YA literature, but with strong sexual and violent undertones. Bardugo's characters are flawed and complex and their motivations which drive the plots are just as varied.

Young Adult and Fantasy Author

Bardugo was born in Jerusalem and raised in Los Angeles, California. After her mother remarried when she was young, Bardugo changed homes and schools and this experience had a permanent effect on her development personally and in the books she would create. Her heroes are complex and flawed. Her books have been translated into 22 languages and published in over 50 countries.

Website: https://www.leighbardugo.com
