I like the idea of a CP program based around the Rational Choice Theory. I think this would be easily workable with the community and it would be something they would be keen to get engaged with and be a willing participant. With small changes to normal behavior, eg target hardening, I think the CP program could show results and educate the community to prevent further offending.

I think the concepts of the Routine Activity Theory could work well when applied to my general duties policing situation. For example, there has been a recent uptick in youth crime in one particular local park near the beach. Proactive patrols and the use of police move on directions (without harassing youths for just existing there) can help limit the number of offenders that loiter in the area on Friday and Saturday nights and ensure the frequent presence of capable guardians in the park. Increasing lighting and CCTV to target-harden may also help to de-motivate potential offenders, it they believe there is a greater chance they will be caught committing offences such as assault or graffiti.
