         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Two people who explored the land that is to the west of the Mississippi river.<br>- Lewis was born in Virginia in 1774 but he spent his beginning childhood in Georgia.<br>- He returned to Virginia when he was a teenager from college in 1793.<br>-Lewis joined the Virginia state Militia where he put an end to the whiskey rebellion.<br>-At the age of 27 Lewis became the secretary to president Thomas Jefferson.<br>-Clark was born in Virginia in 1770 but he moved with his family to Kentucky at age of 15. <br>- He also joined the state militia and the regular army at the age of 19.<br>-He was eventually commissioned by president George washington as lieutenant of infantry.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-During the French and Indian War, france surrendered a large part of Louisiana to spain and almost all of the land for Great Britain.<br>- Spains acquisition didn't have a major impact since it still allowed the U.S to trade on the Mississippi. <br>-in 1802 King Charles IV returned the Louisiana Territory back to France and removed Americas port access.<br>- In 1803 under a threat for war, president Jefferson and James Monroe negotiated a deal with france for about 827,000 square miles of the Louisiana Territory for 15 million.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- At Fort Manda the two (Lewis and Clark) met French canadian trapper Toussaint-Charbonneau and they hired him as the interpreter. They also allowed his wife Sacagawea to come with and she was pregnant at the time.<br>-Sacagawea had been kidnapped when she was 12 by the Hidatsa Indians.<br>- She became an invaluable and respected asset to Lewis and Clark.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Lewis and Clark returned to Washington D.C during fall of 1806.<br>- The two failed to identify a coveted Northwest Passage water route but they completed their mission of surveying the Louisiana Territory til the Mississippi River. <br>-They had traveled more than 8,000 miles.<br>-Clark remained a succesful life and Lewis drank and died in 1809, that same year Sacagawea also died and Clark became the guardian of her children.</div>]]></description>
