The following I have tried in my class.

1.     Through story time – We tell different stories about different cultures, values, traditions, which can pave way for discussion of our similarities and differences.

2.     In our unit of inquiry “How we express ourselves” with central idea being-“We express ourselves through different celebrations” when students explored about the harvest festival of India -Pongal, Lohri, Makar sakranti , they also explored the harvest festivals from around the world like Thanks Giving, Hanukkah, Moon festival and lantern festival.

3.     Guest speaker-Invite parents or other guests to come to the classroom to share their experiences, to read stories unique to their culture.

Plans that can be implemented in the school-

1.     International day celebration- It can be celebrated across classes where each class will represent a different culture by doing role play by wearing costumes and getting one food item of representing this culture.. 

2.     Cultural Exchange programme can be organised

3.     Taking trips and excursions to provide students with the opportunities to learn about themselves and others

 

It can be a long term strategy where collaboration of specialists would be required
 PE teacher - Traditional games of different countries, Music/Dance teacher - Songs and dance forms of different countries, 

School community- Celebration of various international Day Events which will make the students internationally minded learners.

 

 I will know its working  from the students themselves whether they are enjoying, whether they are enthusiastically participating in the activities and their reflections, and the parents feedback .
