I chose my sister because she is one of the closest people to me and very important. I grew up with her and lived with her when we first moved to Queens from Upstate, NY and was able to watch her try to deal and cope with her addiction. 

My representation depicts the biological factors by showing a DNA helix as a way of representing my sister’s predisposition to inheriting the disease as both of our parents were addicts as well.

I also chose to represent a brain that highlights the brain in drug abuse and addiction. Addiction is a problem of brain functioning. Due to the chemicals that are released people can become addicted, and due to biology some people are more predisposed to that due to genetics. 
 

I would say that psychodynamic perspective would best explain my sister’s experience regarding the biological dimension. Due to her brain chemistry and genetics, she felt that she needed the alcohol and substances in order to meet her needs, drives and fulfill or numb that emotional part of herself.
