Germans enforce edicts that lower the rights that are specifically targeted at the Jews in Sighet. The edicts that were placed made it so that they were less privileged than other citizens. These edicts were made so that Jews couldn't leave their homes, or own any jewelry. They were also forced to wear a star on their shoulder, if anyone were to break these rules, the punishment was death.

This event was important to the story because this is when Eliezer realized that the situation was serious, and connects to the theme or the story with how Jews were treated as if they were worth less than others.

This leads to Eliezer's development because now he is worried for his life, he has to start focusing on him and his family.

Eliezer, his dad and the other people traveling in a train stop at Birkenau. Birkenau is the concentration camp where Eliezer and his father will be staying as prisoners. during this train ride, Mrs. Schachter, one of the people Eliezer was traveling with, kept talking about a fire that she was seeing. Once they arrive at Birkenau, everyone else sees fire and smoke coming from the camp.

This event is important to Eliezer's story because Birkenau is where Eliezer and his dad are gonna have to start working or else they are killed.

This event affected Eliezer's development as a person by making him more alert and more awake causing him to constantly be worried about his well being and his dad's well being.

An SS Officer orders everyone at the camp to divide by genders. This means Eliezer and his dad will be separated from his mother and his sisters. They are then ordered to form into ranks of fives to say their age and what they do. A stranger goes up to Eliezer and his father and tells them to say they are 18 and 40 and that they are both farmers. The stranger then explains that old men and men who aren't adults go to the crematorium.

This event affected Eliezer by causing him to feel more alert and to mainly focus on himself, he still cared for his father but his priority was more focused on survival.

This event is connected to the theme of the story by explaining how people suffering from internment were forced away from their families.

One day Idek entrusts Frankek with watching the prisoners. Everyone gets tired of the work and take turns going around the warehouse hoping someone left bread. When its Eliezer's turn, he reaches the back on the warehouse only to see Idek with a young polish girl who is half naked. Eliezer is then spotted by Idek, given a speech by the Kapo, then told to lie down on his stomach to get whipped as his punishment."

This event teaches Eliezer to be more careful and makes Eliezer feel more scared of the Nazis.

This event is connected to the theme of Night because it focuses on how prisoners of concentration camps were being abused and tortured.

After realizing that all the suffering going around him doesn't seem to be stopping, Eliezer starts to question his faith in god. he starts reconsidering his faith because he thought to himself why would an all powerful god let all this suffering happen. After this moment of realization, Eliezer stops practicing his religion, the traditions, and following the god he no longer believed in. He rather becomes more angry about all the suffering around him after asking why God would let all this happen.

This connects to one theme in the memoir, the loss of faith because Eliezer starts questioning his faith and questioning if god is even real.

This event affects Eliezer by causing him to lose a part of him that's stuck with him since birth up until this point.

Before the liberating army can get to the camp, Eliezer, his dad, and other prisoners are evacuated and moved to another camp. While they are marching Eliezer meets Zalman, a young polish boy who got made fun of for practicing his religion. When the 2 young boys meet Zalman starts to have a stomachache, Eliezer tries to convince Zalman to keep moving but Zalman falls. After that Eliezer starts thinking of what it's like to be dead, to not go through all of this suffering.

This was important to the story because it showed Eliezer that he cannot afford to focus on others, and mainly focus on himself.

This event connects to the theme of the story because it shows how victims on the holocaust were forced to work, and given this ides that being dead is better.

The wagon that Eliezer has been traveling in stops off at Buchenwald, the camp Eliezer and his dad will remain for the rest of the story. On their way there, Eliezer's dad's friend Meir Katz was having these thoughts on why they don't just shoot him already. When they first got on the train, there were about 100 in the train, but only 12 prisoners remained. The reason behind this is because is because the Nazis were killing people who were sleeping and dropping them off on the road.

This is important to the story because Buchenwald is the camp that the rest of the story takes place in.

This affected Eliezer by making him think there was no more reasons to keep going and he just felt like giving up.

Eliezer's dad is very ill and does not have the strength to do anything anymore. He is taken care of by the doctor over there in Buchenwald, and his son. One day, Eliezer was in roll call when his father kept pleading him for water. The SS Officer got fed up with him and told him to be quiet, but Eliezer's dad didn't listen, resulting in him getting beaten with a club. The day after, his dad's cot was given to another person, he was taken to the crematorium.

This affected Eliezer by causing him to think nothing mattered anymore since his dad died, he had gave up on that moment.

This connects to one theme of the story, being separated from your family, because of how Eliezer lost his dad, making him not want to do anything anymore.

On April 5th the camp Kommandant ordered all Jews to go to the Appelplats. A prisoner over there whispered to Eliezer to go back to his block because the Germans were planning to shoot him. To prevent the liquidation, an underground resistance decided to not abandon the prisoners. On April 10th there was a battle at Buchenwald, tons of gunshots explosions, While Eliezer and the other children laid on the floor of the block. The battle did not last long as the SS fled and the resistance took charge. It was at this moment that there was an American tank at the gates. Days after this, Eliezer becomes very ill and and spent 2 weeks in the hospital, one day he had the strength to get up and look himself in the mirror, for as he has not seen himself in the mirror for a while.

This is important to the story because now Eliezer was free, and no longer controlled by the Nazis.

This event affect Eliezer by allowing him to be free, but also he is stuck with all of this PTSD of losing his family.
