-  According to the Bible, one day, God told Abraham to leave his home in Mesopotamia.  He was to make a long journey, west. God promised to lead him to a new land and to make his descendants leaders of a mighty nation. He ended up in Canaan
-  His descendants, the Hebrews lived there for many years.  Later however, some Hebrews moved to Egypt. The population grew and grew. This worried the pharaoh. He feared that the Hebrews would get too much power so he enslaved the Hebrews in Egypt. 
- Moses led the Jews out of Egyptian slavery back to Canaan.
-  They then departed across Egypt bound for the Red Sea. They went through Mount Sinai, towards Canaan. They then heard from their spies that the land beyond was a land of giants. They refused to go on. Then, Moses commanded them to live in the desert until the generation that left Egypt with him, passed away. After this Moses divided the seas and they crossed with chariots.
