In Sherry Turkle's "Connected but alone?," she pointed out how our way of communication with other people changes because of the use of technology.
Technology is everywhere wherever we go. It's true that technology can make our life easier, our work faster and our life better in some ways. We use technology on our everyday life that I can't even imagine how would be our way of life when there's no technology. Through technology we can finish our work faster also we can communicate with people around us and those who is far from us but, do we realize that technology changes our way of living? It's not how it was before when there isn't much technology that we have right now. Before, we take our time scanning our books, visiting library so that we can answer our assignments or do other schools works. Now, when there are assignments one click on the search box then you're done sometimes we don't even check if what we searched online is a fact. Also, when there is a family outing or bonding with friends we can't afford to forget our mobile phones and other gadgets, it is like feeling incomplete when we don't have our gadgets with us. Even when we're eating, we constantly check our mobile phones that we supposed not to, because it's already an act of disrespecting the food infront of us. All of those things we done that causes us to forget the sense of quality time with people around us specially our family. We become dependent on technology that it ruined our way of communicating with the people around us. Technology can bring us together but apart from real world. Technology like mobile devices are powerful that it changes what we do and also what we are. I can connect it through social medias, instead of talking to others when you have a problem you chose to just post it, yes you have social media friends but are they still your friend outside of social media? Can they help you with your problem? So instead of posting it online you can simply call out for your family and start having a verbal communication with them and through it you can build a stronger relationship with them and in that way you will never feel alone. Our family is the one that can really help and guide us to a better life. Social media is fun but let's not depend our happiness on it and don't let it change you and your perspective in life.
All of those things that Sherry Turkle pointed out on her Ted Talk made me realized many things. Technology can help us in many ways but that doesn't mean that we should depend our life on it. Let's spend time with people around us specially with our family, let ourself feel the love and support from them and let them also feel that they're loved. Don't let technology ruin your relationship with others. Make time away from social media and start creating connection with people around you. Disconnect from virtual world and reconnect to real world.
