How Circuit Breaker Works

I chose this topic because I didn't really know what circuit breakers were. I have heard about them before but I didn't know what exactly they did and how they work. There are many different types of circuit protection, protecting your house from burning down. One of the simplest ones is the fuse. Fuses are simply a thin wire covered with a case. The wire is plugged into the circuit and disintegrates when it heats up above a certain level. This opens the circuit up and stops excess current from damaging other wires. The downside of this is that you need to get a new fuse if the old one is used up. A basic circuit breaker is a little more complex than a fuse and can be used more than once. Circuit breakers are simply a switch that opens a circuit when the current goes above safe levels. Basic circuit breakers have an electromagnet that pulls down a lever and shuts off the electricity when the current goes above safe levels. Some more advanced circuit breakers use explosive charges and more sensitive measurement tools to switch the lever.
