There are many schools of thought on how to do strategic management, and academics and managers have developed numerous frameworks to guide the strategic management process. In general, the process typically includes five phases:

assessing the organization's current strategic direction;

identifying and analyzing internal and external strengths and weaknesses;

formulating action plans;

executing action plans; and

evaluating to what degree action plans have been successful and making changes when desired results are not being produced.

Effective communication, data collection, and organizational culture also play an important part in the strategic management process -- especially in large, complex companies. Lack of communication and a negative corporate culture can result in a misalignment of the organization's strategic management plan and the activities undertaken by its various business units and departments. (See Value of organizational culture.) Thus, strategy management includes analyzing cross-functional business decisions prior to implementing them to ensure they are aligned with strategic plans.

I have gained so much knowledge from taking this course. I had some obstacles and some days were tougher than others, but I managed to pull through. I have learned a lot about myself in the past 7 weeks and it has truly been an honor. As I move on to the next phase in my life and continue to pursue other things, I feel confident in myself and my newfound knowledge. Thanks to this course, I have also created my own padlet for personal use as a form of self-expression. I journal, write poetry, and write short stories and if it were not for this course I would have never known about padlet. Thank you for the experience :)

Diversity is good for business when the organization knows how to truly embrace, value, and make use of diversity in its leadership and workforce. Because when managers and leaders know how to draw out diverse perspectives, build on them, and be inclusive of all the perspectives available on their teams, they get better ideas, question assumptions, identify blind spots, develop new approaches, and create better solutions. As a result, they see massive team innovation, performance, and growth.
