•Smooth muscle: classed as non-striated, smooth muscle fibers are small and tapered. It is responsible for contraction of the heart. It is divided into two subgroups; the single-unit (unitary) and multi-unit. Within single-unit cells, the whole bundle or sheet contracts as a syncytium.

The contraction of the smooth muscle is slower and can resist stress for much longer than the other types of muscle. Thus, this is due to the lower rate of oxygen and energy consumption. It constitutes much of the musculature of internal organs and the digestive system.

Smooth muscle is present in the walls of hollow organs like the urinary bladder, uterus, stomach, intestines, and in the walls of passageways, such as the arteries and veins of the circulatory system, and the tracts of the respiratory, urinary, and reproductive systems. Smooth muscle is also present in the eyes, where it functions to change the size of the iris and the shape of the lens; and in the skin where it causes hair to stand erect in response to cold temperature or fear.

In addition, smooth muscle tissue tends to demonstrate greater elasticity and function within a larger length-tension curve than striated muscle. This ability to stretch and still maintain contractility is important in organs like the intestines and urinary bladder. In the relaxed state, each cell is spindle-shaped, 20-500 micrometers in length.

A substantial portion of the volume of the cytoplasm of smooth muscle cells are taken up by the molecules myosin and actin, which together have the possibility to contract, and through a chain of tensile structures, make the entire smooth muscle tissue contract with them. The smooth muscle is the only type of muscle without the ability to be voluntarily controlled in stressful situations.

The 3 types of muscle tissue are cardiac, smooth, and skeletal. Cardiac muscle cells are located in the walls of the heart, appear striated, and are under involuntary control. Smooth muscle fibers are located in walls of hollow visceral organs, except the heart, appear spindle-shaped, and are also under involuntary control. Skeletal muscle fibers occur in muscles which are attached to the skeleton. They are striated in appearance and are under voluntary control

About half of your body’s weight is muscle. In the muscular system, muscle tissue is categorized into three distinct types: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Each type of muscle tissue in the human body has a unique structure and a specific role. Skeletal muscle moves bones and other structures. Cardiac muscle contracts the heart to pump blood. The smooth muscle tissue that forms organs like the stomach and bladder changes shape to facilitate bodily functions. Here are more details about the structure and function of each type of muscle tissue in the human muscular system.

Cardiac muscle, one of the most important tissues in our body, is a striated muscle of our heart like skeletal muscle. It can help us contract to pump out of the atria and ventricles to the lungs' artery which carry deoxygenated blood. It is for getting oxygen and also pump to the whole body to release the oxygen and nutrients for movement, metabolism and cell division.

Also, it will remove the waste products like carbon dioxide and urea. It cancontract even in the absence of neuronal innervation because it is controlled by an electrical impulse which is made by sinoatrial node. It is located in the wall of the right atria.

Moreover, it is involuntary which means it is out of our control. There are 1 or 2 nuclei in one cardiac muscle which is branched. This means 3 or 4 cells will contact together by fibre through intercalated discs and then they form a giant network for contraction. Also, intercalated discs can help the cells contract at the same time.

In addition, there are t- tubules to increase the surface area to absorb more calcium ions for contraction and a high mitochondrial density to produce ATP for contraction andactive transport.
