  • a. There are three types traditional authority, rational-legal authority, and charismatic authority.

    • b. traditional authority is power that is rooted in traditional, or longstanding, beliefs and practices of a society.
    • rational-legal authority derives from law and is based on a belief in the legitimacy of a society’s laws and rules and in the right of leaders to act under these rules to make decisions and set policy. 
    • Charismatic authority stems from an individual’s extraordinary personal qualities and from that individual’s hold over followers because of these qualities.

    • c. Max Weber, first a lawyer, then an economist and finally a sociologist, was one of the last transdisciplinary social scientists, not least because he was working in an era when the social sciences were not yet strictly differentiated.

    2.traditional authority(is power that is rooted in traditional, or long- standing, beliefs and practices of a society.), rational-legal authority(the president), and charismatic(Spiritual leader). we think rational legal authority represents rationalization, it's more democratic and legal, and also the authority is not personal position, so can’t monopolize.

    3.Weber's idea is very good, because he has a clear insight into the society, but it does not fit the current social situation.
