My adventure in Cardiff - 1st part

One year ago I decided to go abroad to study English and after a few days looking for information about English cities, I made a decision: Cardiff will be my city.

I had a lot of reasons to do it but I had specially one. I hadn’t had the opportunity to do an Erasmus when I was studying at University and I always wanted to do it. Everybody spoke about their superb experiences on Erasmus and I had an itch for to live the same. That was the main reason and luckily, I will never regret!

The experience was really successful and it made me happy. I felt free to do whatever I wanted. Actually, every morning I went to an English academy to learn the language and every day I had homework, and I did it.

I dedicated three hours every day at the academy to learn and in the afternoon I joined in every plan that I could. Sincerely, I spent two months and a half very comfortable and I was really satisfied. I met a lot of people, especially people who I met in my student’s residence. However, I could meet English people thanks to an app called MeetUp. I knew a group of girls and sometimes we met up on the city centre to drink coffee or tea (of course!), we went to the Cardiff Museum and one night, we had dinner in the apartment of one of them. There were fantastic occasions to learn English!

To sum up, I recommend this experience to everybody, especially to people who wants a change and of course, who wants to learn idioms. It’s a very good way to learn idioms, to explore the city and its surroundings. In addition, I’m really convinced that the most important thing is how the experience makes possible to open your mind.

Pumpkin carving in EOI
It was Monday October 30th when a few EOI English students did the Pumpkin carving workshop with the kind teacher assistance, Graham.

He started the session explaining us the Stingy Jack legend, an old mean man who tried to trick the Devil in more than one occasion. The story happened in Ireland and finally, when Stingy Jack died, he tried to enter into Heaven but Saint Peter didn’t permit for his drinking lifestyle and because he had been so tight-fisted and deceitful. Satan, who couldn’t take his soul, gave Jack an ember from the fires of Hell. Jack placed the ember in his favorite food, a turnip, and from that day forward, Stingy Jack has been doomed to roam the earth without a resting place and with only his turnip and ember, to light the way in the darkness.

After the story, Graham let us develop the pumpkin workshop and we cut the pumpkin however we wanted. Eventually, we placed a candle into the pumpkin and the results were disturbing and terrifying.

The book talks about Malala, a girl who was shot by the Taliban in Swat Valley, Pakistan.

Malala is a Pakistan girl who fights for the human educational rights, especially for women.

When the Taliban took control of Swat Valley, she fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday 9 October 2012, she almost paid the ultimate price when she was shot in the head at point-blank range. Her story has touched the heart of thousand people and she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and is the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

To sum up, this is a tough and an extraordinary story of improvement and it invites you to reflect on how a young girl can inspire to change the world.

I really like to travel and this is one of my reasons to learn English.

Nowadays, I have family living abroad, in Italy, and I take advantage of the situation to visit them and to explore new Italian cities.

Last time, on December 2017, we visited Turin (Torino), one of the most important cities in Italy. I especially wanted to visit the Egyptian museum, the second biggest Egyptian museum of the world, after the main one in Cairo.

I rent an audio guide and I listened the explanations in English and the information posters were in English as well. That was a good way to practise English and to learn new words.

The most stunning thing that I saw was the Mummy, who is conserved in very good conditions. I really recommend this Museum!

This weekend I've discovered the Lyrics training website. Is a spontaneous website which is very interesting to practise english and to improve your musical technique. You can practise english spending a good time, laughing, chilling out and leaving back your problems and headaches.
I really recommend it to my classmates!
