- We observed that there is double the number of 11th graders who are nearing "meets and exceeds" than 10th graders.
- Only one student, however, is in the "nearing" group in both English and Math in the 11th grade
- What needs to be taken into account is that by moving 2 or 3 students into the next higher achievement group, we move 4-6% higher in student population in these areas as compared to the state and nation. So, when you look at how we compare....our percentages are not far off in reality.

Nine out of 18 questions labeled "easy" by the College Board were Analysis in Science or Social Studies questions that included questions about charts or words in context. While we cover vocabulary in class every week, with words in context almost daily, we do so mostly in the context of reading fiction or nonfiction literary essays. The questions on the test were focused on science and social studies.

I chose to use much of the College Board curriculum for 11th graders this year on a trial basis. It is mixed in with my own lessons as we identify types of rhetorical appeals and learn how to use them in their own writing, but I believe that using the types of questions the College Board uses in their curriculum will help juniors get used to those types of questions on the test. We do vocabulary every week, and we do Khan Academy for a grade each week. I also have them do Crack the SAT readings to help them learn about the types of questions on the text and how to answer them.

Those who took the first semester final exam also addressed questions similar to the SAT. Juniors also create a working portfolio in which they collect their writing and make connections to outcomes through reflection.
