Date 2/11/2021. Apa yang saya telah pelajari adalah mengenai sejarah dan budaya teater di rantau Asia. Terutamanya, sedikit sebanyak asal usul dan elemen yang terdapat di dalam teater tradisional. Kelebihan yang saya perolehi daripada sesi tadi juga adalah kita dapat mempelajari terms atau elemen yang telah dipratikkan sekian lama dalam teater tradisional ini. Selian itu, setiap negara mempunyai budaya, adat resam dan juga kepercayaan mereka yang tersendiri. Apa yang menarik, sehingga kini, elemen dan budaya masih dikekalkan sehingga kini seperti teater tradisional Malaysia iaitu Wayang Kulit yang memiliki watak budaya daripada teater tradisional India, Mahabrata dan Ramayana. Kelebihan saya di dalam sesi VTT181 ini adalah di mana saya tahu serba sedikit mengenai teater tradisional semasa pengajian yang lepas. Slide yang digunakan juga menarik,kreatif dan juga membantu pelajar untuk mempelajari dengan lebih mudah. Today, 2 Nov 2021, I get to learn what is in asian theatre. History of Southeast Asia and East Asia. Wonderful explanation and briefing of asian countries location. The benefits that I get from today lesson is the view of general elements . My strengths is this class gets excited when it is about the epic story as Ramayana and Mahabrata. It becomes my weakness when the general elements become hard to capture. But I will try my best to understand it. My suggestion to make this session more interesting is having more power point with images , striking background theme, add on animation and abandon the slide by slide style. Overall, I enjoyed Cikgu Halimi first session with pleasure.

Pada hari ini 2 Nov 2021 ,saya begitu teruja kerana pagi2 lagi sebelum kelas bermula kami disajikan dengan beberapa buah lagu dan ini dapat meningkatkan mood belajar saya,hari ini apa yang saya dapat ialah mengetahui tentang elemen2 yang terdapat dalam teater seperti (perfomer,subject,director,theatrical space,technical,audience and social requirement).saya juga dapat mengetahui dalam setiap negara mempunyai pelbagai cerita2 yang dipersembahkan mengikut budaya dan tatacara hidup dan agama masing2 cikgu juga banyak berkongsi cerita2 epik seperti Ramayana dan Mahabrata. 2 Nov 2021 , The day of my Asian Theatre class begins with a melodic songs . Today I learned about the history and elements of theatre such as theatrical space and social requirements. Seriously when sir says that there will be a apart of learning about Ramayana and Mahabarata , I was super excited . This is because I am going to learn about my culture and also eagerly waiting to share my knowledge towards this two beautiful epic stories of India to my friends . By today's lesson I got to know about the things needed in theatre and that's really important 🤷🏽‍♂️ . My strength definitely will the the focus and love towards this course❤️ . My weakness might be my laziness 🤣. Definitely I will overcome it 💪🏼. I really love Cikgu Halim's class . Looking forward for coming days ♥️♥️♥️

Hello ,everyone. 2/11/2021, this is my first course about VTT181-STUDEIES IN ASIAN THEATRE. First, Cikgu introduced to us what we will learn this semester and introduced to the assessment.
Understand the history of Southeast Asia and East Asia and the historical diversity of traditional theater theatrical. Learning that each country and region has its own characteristics of traditional theater and performance forms, and the performance relation with belief, religion, and cultures. (Malaysia, China, Japan, India, etc.)

And 6 elements: STYLIZED (Dialogue, Movement, Mime, Language); Non-realistic FIGURE (make up and mask, color and design); STORY AND TEXT(different performance share with the same story) ; MUSIC, DANCE AND SINGING ; MUSIC INSTUMENTS; PLACE.
I didn't know much about this course before, but now I know what it is, and I hope I can learn more in future courses😊. Thanks !

Hai!Cikgu Halimi.Nice to meet you.
The class start by explaining the outline of whole semester and the outcomes of the Asian Theatre.What I learn today is the elements of Theatre, Non realistic forms and also a little bit in southeast asia theatre which are The Ramayana and The Great Mahabharata that we have to learn in week 5&6.What benefits that I get in this lessons are more knowledge about element of theatre for example the social requirement which is communal art calling for the collaboration of many individuals and group.Another benefit is we learn a bit what theatre in Southeast Asia(Che Mat Jusuh),India,China(Beijing Opera) and Japan.We could research religion,belief and culture contact to the societies through these theatre.My strength during this lessons is I really focus on the lessons😂😂 while the weakness is
this was the first time I'm touch theatre,so I lack of references.This class and professor so interesting👍🏻

Hey everyone, today 2/11/2021, the first day of VTT181- Studies In Asian Theatre subject. The class started with a few tunefull songs. The first day of class creates some nervousness to me because I scared weather the lecture will be strict, but Cikgu Halimi was so cool and friendly until he didnt force us to open our camera. In todays class I have learned history of southeast Asia & East Asia and 6 general elements. The benefits that I get from this class is, it increase my understanding towards this subject and my strenghts is, I got excited when Cikgu Halimi mentioned that we going to study the epic story Ramayana and Mahabaratha. My weakness in this lesson is, I could not manage to jot down every points, but later I watched the recorded video and it helps me to rewrite the points that I missed out. I hope that I will gain more information about this subject in future. Finally, I really enjoyed this session today. Thank you Cikgu Halimi for the wonderful class.

Kelas pertama adalah 2/11/2021 dimana pelajar diberi pengenalan asas terhadap subjek dan perkara yang akan dipelajari sepanjang semester ini. Pengenalan asas terhadap teater sebenarnya telah membuka mata para pelajar bahawa terdapat pelbagai jenis teater yang terdapat di dalam dunia, begitu juga dengan asal usul teater. Manfaat yang diperoleh? Sudah tentu dapat mengetahui pelbagai jenis budaya, jenis teater, dan juga elemen yang digunakan dalam sesuatu persembahan. Terutamanya dalam teater bangsawan, teater tradisional dan teater moden. Kelebihan saya dalam sesi ini adalah saya dapat memahami penerangan yang diberikan dengan begitu baik kerana saya telah mempelajarinya dalam sidang yang lepas. Walaupun sudah dipelajari, saya macam "ingat-ingat lupa", inilah kelemahan saya dalam sesi ini. Cadangan saya, mungkin dalam kelas yang akan datang kita boleh buat game untuk menceriakan lagi kelas. (game apa? saya pon taktau) ehheheehehhehe

Saya dapat mengetahui tentang elemen-elemen yang terdapat di dalam teater serta tentang asal-usul teater. Kelebihan saya dalam mengambil subjek ini adalah saya tahu serba sedikit mengenai teater kerana telah mengambil subjek pengantar pada semester 1. namun ada juga yang masih perlu saya ingat kembali kerana ada yang saya lupa. 2 Nov, the first meeting of our class (Studies In Asian Theatre). Through this class I know about the basic of Asian Theatre. There are 7 elements of theatre, 6 elements of non-realistic forms and a little bit knowledge of history of Southeast Asia and East Asia. This class was so relax as cikgu Halimi is quite funny☺. The weakness during this lesson is I couldn't focus 100% (i would be absent-minded😅).
Anyway i will try my best in this course and be more conscientious. Thank you cikgu😉

Hello, today is 5/11/2021, this class was my first time to know about Asian Theatre. Before this class, my view of Asian theatre is a form of performance in a theatre and after this class, I realized that in Asian, all the countries have their own types of theatre performence and the theatrical art has been lasted for thousands years. I think my main weakness is the language problem, like the listed examples in class, actually I know them in Chinese, but really confused to understand in English or Malay. For now I have no suggestion to our session because I'm trying to follow the session. Overall, I like this session and regard this as a challenge then I would bravely face it.

2/11/2021 was my first day of asian theatre class, teacher was gave a briefing during the online class about how we will be assessed at the end of the course. Then, we were learned about the history of Southeast Asia and East Asia. It was a wonderful explanation given by the teacher! The benefits that I get from the lesson is the view of asian theatre. My strength is can specified out the most important point after the class and weakness is this course is my starting point to began my journey so need have some time to get the new knowledge. I was so enjoy how happiness was and Cikgu Halimi is a friendly and encouraging person. These positive characteristics were give a good motivation to let me began this journey. Last but not least, I would like to have a better information about theatre as one of the art form and have a good understanding on various across asia.

Hey there, I experienced my first class on 2nd of November, which was really amazing and impressing. Through the first lecture of this subject, I was introduced briefly about course content and slightly regarding Asian theatre. I realized that theatre has always related to a country's belief, culture and religion, which have created a lot of different forms and elements of a performance.

When it comes to benefits that I can get from this lecture, I would say that it had truly widen my view and perspective on Asian theatre.

According to the general elements of Asian theatre, I can definitely visualize their 'real life' in a particular period. I also find this interesting as it brings me so much fun for having this kind of imagination that pops up in my head.

I did figure out my strength during this session too. For instance, it could enhance my creativity and inovative, which could improve my personal development skills.

However, I actually found that I could hardly focus on learning about historical backgrouund of Asian theatre.

In my opinion, I would suggest that Cikgu can plan a QNA session to liven up the whole lecture session!

Hey there! I'm Yixin. I noticed that the lessons are so interesting, especially most of it related to history. I am excited that I can get to know more deeply about the history of the Asia theatre. As I am a history-based student, I studied history during Form 6. It is a pain to study history (there”s a lot) and I am not good at memorizing stuff, I prefer understanding the soul of history. Our lecturer En. Halimi is a funny person, and makes a lot of fun during lessons. Hope there will be physical classes in the campus, can”t wait to see you guys.

Assalammualaikum wbt & Selamat Sejahtera.

2 November, masih sebagai seorang pelajar minor dibawah kursus drama & teater (lakonan) dan perkara yang dipelajari kali ini adalah berkaitan dengan kajian teater asia. Melangkaui aspek dan batasan pengetahuan bagi seorang yang tidak mempunyai pengetahuan yang banyak berkaitan drama & teater telah menjadikan minda dan mata terbuka luas dalam bidang ini.

Menelusuri perkara yang diperolehi daripada kuliah lepas adalah mengenai sejarah dan budaya teater yang terdapat di rantau Asia terutamanya berkaitan dengan asal usul dan elemen yang dititikberatkan dan difokuskan dalam teater tradisional seperti Wayang Kulit (Malaysia), Ramayana dan Mahabrata (India). Perkara yang terkandung seperti adat resam, elemen budaya dan nilai, kepercayaan bagi anutan setiap budaya yang ada telah menjadikan keaslian tradisional ini masih diambil berat dan dipelajari oleh anak-anak seni sehingga kita.

Mengetahui serba sedikit berkaitan kajian teater asia melalui kajian dan pembelajaran lepas serta pengetahuan umum yang diperolehi daripada rakan-rakan sewaktu beberapa semester lepas telah membantu dalam membuka mata lebih luas sewaktu semester ini berkaitan dengan pengetahuan drama & teater. Mengharapkan sesuatu yang lebih menarik dalam mempelajari kuliah ini kerana masih terdapat banyak info serta ilmu yang masih perlu dipelajari di dalam kelas ini dan mengharapkan ada sokongan daripada rakan-rakan yang lain.

Pada minggu pertama kelas VTT 181 Kajian Teater Asia, sebelum Encik Halimi memulakan kelas menerangkan lebih lanjut tentang subjek ini, Encik Halimi memasang beberapa buah lagu untuk menceriakan lagi suasana kelas tersebut. Encik Halimi menerangkan apa yang akan kami pelajari dari minggu pertama sehingga di hujung semester. Kemudian, kami belajar tentang sejarah Asia Tenggara dan Timur Asia. Selain itu, setiap negara mempunyai budaya, adat resam dan juga kepercayaan mereka yang tersendiri.

Manfaat yang saya perolehi adalah saya dapat belajar tentang teater asia dengan lebih meluas. Kekuatan saya semasa sesi ini ialah saya dapat menceritakan ilmu yang telah saya pelajari kepada orang lain dan kelemahan saya ialah saya tidak diberi pendedahan langsung tentang teater asia jadi pengetahuan saya agak kurang mengenai teater asia. Perkara yang dapat dipelajari mengenai kajian teater asia pada 2 November ialah saya dapat mengenal pasti pengenalan terhadap VTT181 iaitu teori tradisional, struktur terhadap perkembangan teater serta mengetahui falsafah dan estetika terhadap kesenian tradiosional di Asia Tenggara, India, China dan Jepun.

Manfaat yang saya perolehi dalam kelas ini ialah saya dapat mengetahui tentang kemunculan teater di asia dengan lebih mendalam. Perkembangan teater di Asia amat menarik dan hal ini membantu saya mendalami pemahaman dengan mengambil kelas VTT181 kerana kelemahan saya adalah kurang mendapat pendedahan mengenai teater asia.

Walaupun kelas dilakukan secara atas talian, namun cara penyampaian ilmu amat mudah untuk saya tangkap. Saya akan buat yang terbaik sehingga ke penghujung subjek ini. Terima kasih Cikgu.

Wazzzzuupp my name is Amerul. Our 2nd today (9/11/2021) I learned a lot about the cultural history of Asian theatre especially South East Asian. The traditions such as Folk theatre which is made by the people and less fancy than Court theatre. Genres of theatre like puppetry theatre, the most memorable was Vietnamese water puppet theatre. It seems like it requires a lot of skills to be able to perform that level of puppetry IN WATER.
The benefits I got today is it enriched my understanding of our South East Asian's theatre history and global theatre history overall.
My strength is when it comes to classes involving historical backgrounds, mythological deities & myths. It absorbs into my brain very fast, myths n history are really interesting! The lore and culmination of the past human civilizations...awh.

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone ! My name is Syahmi Radi B. Zulkefli but you can just call me Eddy to make it simpler. I am from School of The Arts (SOTA) and my major course is Acting and Directing.

In the 2nd week (2nd November 2021) I learned about the elements of theater such as performer, script, director, audience etc. I also learned about tools in theater like proto theater, opera theater, dance theater and also puppet theater. Cikgu Hilimi also talked about non realistic form such as stylized, non realistic figures , music dance singing, and music instruments.

I also really like Cikgu Halimi's method of teaching which is kinda relaxing but smooth and clear

Hello again guys and En. Halimi. I learned many important aspects of Asian Theater from class of 9/11/2021. I learned about folk theater, court theater, popular theater and western theater traditions. All of these are based on the study of James R. Brandon. En. Halimi even played out some videos as an example for each genre and pinpointed out the key elements of theater. Can't wait for next class!!!

Hi guys and En. Halimi today's class (16/11/2021) was very informative to be exact. We were studying about theater in Indonesia. The influences of Indian theater and their types. Influences of folk, court and popular theater. What was really interesting was the influences of Mahabharatha and Ramayana tales and their reliefs on vast temples in Indonesia such as the Borobudur temple. Lots of contemplations involved. Can't wait for next class!!!

Hi Encik Halimi and guys. For today ( class of 23/11/2021 ) was very interesting. I've learned about the epic Ramayana and why it is the main repertoire used in wayang kulit and many other stage performances in Southeast Asia. The characters Dhasaradha, Sumitha, Khauselya, Karkeyi and their sons Rama, Lakhmana, Bharatha and Chaturgan along with Rama's wife, Seetha, the monkey General, Hanuman and villains like Surpaneka and Rawanan all taught us crucial moral values and how this epic unites us all. Can't wait for the next class about Mahabharata!!!

Hi En. Halimi and friends, the class of 30/11/2021 again was another interesting one hosted Dr. Mumtaz Begum, the Mahabharata. It basically revolved around two clans (Pandawas and Kaurawas) who were greedy for the throne hence the great war began (Mahabharata). The epic took an
emotional part where Arjuna killed Karnan (his brother) not knowing who he is. There are many life lessons we can learn from this epic alone. I wonder how the next class will be?

Hello En. Halimi and fellow friends, class of 7/12/2021 was very intriguing for me. I got a knowledge of what types shadow puppets "Wayang Kulit" are there in Malaysia. The four main types are Wayang Kelantan, Gedek, Melayu dan Java. Next week, there will be a quiz, can't wait for that too!!!

Hello En. Halimi, Adi Guru En. Che Mat Jusoh and friends, the class of 28/12/2021 was very informative. Our Adi Guru explained the four types of Wayang Kulit performed in Malaysia; Wayang Kulit Kelantan, Wayang Kulit Purwa, Wayang Kulit Gedek and Wayang Kulit Melayu or Jawa. The initial three still remains until today whilst the fourth has become non existent. After listening to what Adi Guru said we were then instructed to do a Infographic Report based on this lecture. Again this was crucial information to be received. Thank you Adi Guru and En. Halimi for this wonderful lecture.

Today (25/1/2022) was a class on the Japanese Theatre. There are three to be exact; Noh, Kabuki and Bunraku. We only studied Noh. We studied about how it was influenced from China and how it evolved from there.

Asal-usul teater bermula sejak manusia primitif dan ritual beliau dikaitkan dengan memburu, penuaian, kematian dan kelahiran, antara lain, yang boleh termasuk tarian, tiruan haiwan, upacara penyembahan tuhan-tuhan, dan lain-lain Dalam persembahan teater terdapat ritual dilakukan sebelum persembahan bermula. Hal ini kerana ada mempercayai perkara ghaib atau pun dipanggil animisme. Ritual itu dilakukan untuk menjaga keselamatan kerana ada aktiviti yang merbahaya seperti main api, pijak kaca dan banyak lagi. Saya rasa teater ini amat menarik, tak sabar nak belajar lagi mengenai teater pada minggu hadapan.

I’m a history loving person and last I studied history at secondary school. Listen to history is one of the hardest this but our lecturer En. Halimi made it interesting. VTT181-STUDIES IN ASIAN THEATRE
It is a fun subject for me though it is full of history. Besides Cikgu Halimi is a very good mentor with good sense of humor, which makes me feel interesting and attracted during class.

Hi guys it’s 16/11/2021 and it is my first time posting a after class review. Studies in Asian Theatre is a quite relax lesson for me walaupun it is about history of theatre. But, it is really interesting for me and I enjoy the class very much. After today’s lesson, I am happy to learn new knowledge about how theatre influenced and influenced by people’s history. Although I never heard about the stories that mentioned by cikgu during the class just now, I think I would like to spend some time to read it. I hope that we will meet with each other and have f2f classes soon.

It's 23/11/2021 today. For today's class I'd learned a lot about the Epic Ramayana from Dr Mumtaz. The class was fun for me because I'd never learned any story about India before. So this was a very interesting class for me cuz I learned a lot of moral lessons from the characters in the Epic. Rama's story had impressed me a lot and I think my weakness in this class was since it is my first time listening to the Epic so I could not understand it so much. I think the slide can have more information to make it clearer for us. Thank you.

It's 30/11/2021, the second class conducted by Dr Mumtaz and the class was basically about another India's epic, Epic Mahabharata. In my opinion, this story fits me better as compared to Epic Ramayana. I learned a lot about how a bad and negative mind from an individu can actually change the others around him. Besides, I also earned some impression from the quality showed by Karnan which is always be loyal to whom that supported you back in your hard time. The same weakness for me as last week which is since this is the first time I learned about the story, so it is quite hard for me to remember it. I think that the Dr can do some QNA for us to understand it better.

Okay it's 07/12/2021. Today's class session is about the Wayang Kulit. Though I am a Malaysian, tapi saya pun hanya pernah dengar tentang Wayang Kulit sebelum ni sahaja. After today's class I learned about there are actually some kinds of Wayang Kulit in Malaysia such as Wayang Kulit Siam (Kelantan), Wayang Kulit Melayu, Wayang Kulit Gedek dan Wayang Kulit Purwa. I've never seen any Wayang Kulit before and it is one of my bucket list. I think En Halimi can show more Wayang Kulit's footage so that we can know how it really goes. Thankyouuu.

14/12/2021. It's a freaky quiz week and the quiz is about what we had learned before. At first I thought that I was already good enough but until when the questions revealed, I realised that there were still a lot for me to learn. And, luckily there was a second attempt for us to use it. ahah So, I will look up for the next quiz and strengthen myself during this period.

Hi guys, its 28/12/2021 hope you guys enjoyed your midsem break. Today's class is about 4 types of wayang kulit in Malaysia and we have a very special guest which is En. Che Mat Jusuh to explain to us about it. En. Che Mat Jusuh is a ex-Dalang and very experienced in Wayang Kulit performances. He also introduces to us about Dalang Muda and Dalang Tua. I also learned about the role of Dalang Tua in performance and in the society and also the criteria and skill needed to be a Dalang. Today's class is very interesting but I think that it will be more interesting if there are some video when En Che Mat Jusuh is explaining.

Today is 11/01/2022, the very first class of this subject in 2022 and today's class is about the Chinese Opera, which is one of my favourite. Today I learned about the history of Chinese Opera and how did it developed. Before this, I already knew that Chinese Opera had a lot types because China is big and so the Opera is influenced by different culture from different place. My advantages in today's class is I understand Chinese so I can get more information when I try to translate the terminology I learned into Chinese such as Xing Tou, Sheng Dan Jing Chou and Hang Dang.

Pada 16/11/2021 saya dapat mempelajari tentang sejarah awal teater Indonesia yang dipengaruhi oleh Hindu-Buddha seperti Wayang Wong yang menggabungkan tiga cabang kesenian iaitu tarian,muzik dan drama.Kemudian saya dapat mengetahui tentang pembahagian adegan2 dalam wayang wong iaitu slendro patet Nem,slendro patet sanga dan slendro patet mayura..😅setakat itu sahaja perkongsian saya ..terima kasih cikgu Kalau silap maaf ye🌸

Pada kelas pertama VTT181, saya bersyukur kerana mendapat pensyarah yang memahami dan baik walaupun ini hanyalah kelas minor saya. Cikgu Halimi memberi pendedahan mengenai pengenalan kursus kajian teater Asia . Saya belajar mengenai elemen-elemen asas yang perlu ada dalam pementasan teater contohnya seperti non realistic figure, music instrument, jalan cerita dan lain lain.
Dengan mengambil kursus ini, saya berharap ia dapat memperluaskan ilmu pengetahuan saya mengenai sejarah teater Asia kerana sejarah ialah perkara yang membentuk kita pada hari ini. Kursus ini juga dapat memenuhi sifat ingin tahu yang tinggi dalam diri saya yang merupakan kekuatan saya. Kelemahan saya ialah saya seorang yang sukar memberi reaksi/malu akibat terlalu lama kelas dalam talian. Saya akan cuba untuk bertanyakan soalan jika ada untuk mengatasi kelemahan saya. Saya berasa kelas ini sangat santai dan best!!

Sepanjang saya belajar tentang VVT181 STUDIES IN ASIAN THEATRE, banyak limu yang telah pensyarah dedahkan tentang jenis-jenis teater mengikut pelbagai jenis negara Asia seperti Indonesia, China, Jepun dan India. Di samping itu, saya dapat ilmu tentang serba sedikit tentang jenis-jenis teater seperti Wayang Kulit, Wayang Wong, Teater Noh, dan sebagainya.

16 Nov 2021 - Topik tentang sejarah teater di Indonesia. Saya sangat tertarik dengan topik tersebut kerana saya adalah sebahagian dari keturunan Jawa Bugis dan Jawa Tengah, segala sejarah, adat dan sebagai kini makin dilupakan. Jadi melalui topik saya rasa kagum kerana Indonesia merupakan negara yang mahir dan profesional dalam seni teater dan tambahan pula mereka kaya dengan kepercayaan mistik dan ritual. Selain itu, di Indonesia jugak memilki bentuk-bentuk teater seperti teater istana ( Wayang Wong, Wayang Wong Bali, Langendriyan dan Gambuh).
