Teaching comes a long way, from its establishment long years ago, to its development and evolution today and for the future. But one thing has never changed throughout education, and that is the fact that learning occurs and is present there.

The quote I’ve chosen is a quote by Margaret Elizabeth Sangster who was an American poet and a teacher, she was also devoutly religious. I believe that teaching and love should go hand in hand, although one should have the set of skills and values a teacher should have, I think that love should be above all else.

Throughout the subject, the topics discussed were very interesting and perhaps were very important as a future educator. But these following topics has struck me most and here’s why.

Education Act of 1982

The Education Act of 1982 is an act for the system of education in our country. It is a set of guidelines and laws regarding education. I think that this is a very important law that covers the education system in our country, it enables us to be aware of the rights we have and that we could also exercise them. The education curriculum in our country might not be perfect but knowing and being aware of this gives me hope and a perspective that opportunities can be created and that there can be changes that we can make to certain struggles that we see specifically in the education of our country.

Aside from this, it also contains what the country aims for in the education system for its citizens. We have the right to exercise this freedom and that as future educators we should be able to help the country and most importantly the people to learn and that they could exercise the right to education.

The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

The next one is the code of ethics for professional teachers. This topic was the most memorable one and the topic that has really strucked me. Aside from being a highly relevant one as a future educator, it has also made me see a certain perspective or a sneak peak on what the education community has in hand for me as a future educator. The code of ethics for professional teachers serves as a guide on what is right and wrong as a teacher, specially on how we interact with the students, the institution, even our co-workers. I think this should be taken by heart and that this should be strictly followed, not only that its main purpose is to protect us teachers and students but also the welfare and the rightness of the whole people and community involed.

I've also came to realize how my previous instructors and that some past situations has helped me came to a decision where I was like, yes the code of ethics really is important. Not only that it should be legally abided, but how this is a matter to be taken hardly.

Teaching as a Vocation, Mission and Profession

Teaching as a Vocation, Mission and Profession, are the three highly important words that an educator should practice and observe. These three words are very connected and related to teaching because teaching requires more than just relaying information to students.

Vocation is such a strong word, when I hear this commitment comes to mind because you should be highly committed when you teach. Teaching also requires high dedication, that is because the tasks needed to be done are also difficult, especially when one of our tasks is to mold and shape their moralities aside from their parents. This has come to my mind when I often think if I’m capable of being a teacher, “Is teaching a vocation?” and most certainly even as a studying education student and also from what I’ve seen, yes it does.

Mission, also a word that has a big weight. Teaching is a mission because we aim for them to be better and that itself is already a mission. Even by the word to teach is already a mission, and when one has a mission it is also understood that you need to accomplish it. As a future educator this is already challenging and something that would make me nervous, but aside from that the accomplishment and feeling of fulfillment you have when you've also reached your aims and successfully done your mission to teach and that they've really learned then everything will all be good.

Lastly is that it is a profession, that is very true because aside from the passion and everything it is also a job, a job that requires certain skills and qualifications. That is why getting there to be a teacher won;t be an easy path. As a future educator we must be ready, not just emotionally, but also intellectually and physically.

When I first read the title for the activity, I was kinda nervous because the title itself said “Attestations” which was a word I was not familiar with. I was thinking to myself, oh no this might be a difficult activity that would require much deep understanding on the subject matter. But, apparently it’s more of a testament and the guidelines helped me all throughout the activity.

To formally end my writing, there are a lot of people I want to express my gratitude to. To the institution, CNU, thank you very much for giving me an opportunity to be molded by your excellence. To Mr. Erwin Corales, I also want to say thank you very much for the lessons and most importantly for sharing your experiences and advice to us which would be very helpful today and in the future. Lastly, to all the people involved throughout my learning journey, especially to God, thank you so much and you will always have a special place in my heart. This course subject will be very helpful and won't be forgotten on my journey to becoming a professional teacher, and since I'm here I will be claiming that I WILL BE A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER.
