•	EPIRB
EMERGENCY LOCATION TRANSMITTER

An emergency location transmitter (also known as ELT [1], PLB, EPIRB or Beacon) is a device whose purpose is to instantly and in any part of the planet report the position of ships, planes and people in situations of serious emergency. It essentially consists of a radio beacon that interfaces with the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system for search and rescue operations. The transmitter, once activated manually or automatically (by immersion or following impacts), emits signals on emergency frequencies that are picked up by the network of satellites in orbit and retransmitted to the ground at the emergency coordination centers.
In the maritime field there are two types of models: those of category I, which are activated automatically when they come into contact with water and those of category II, which must be activated manually.

The category I devices contain a hydrostatic hook which, activating with water pressure, free the EPIRB from the box before it reaches a depth of 4 m, allowing it to return to the surface.

Category II models require manual activation that varies, depending on the model.

In any case, when it comes into operation, the EPIRB emits signals on emergency frequencies that are picked up by the network of satellites in orbit and retransmitted to the ground at the emergency coordination centers.

an example of EPIRB:

• SART
Search and Rescue [Radar] Transponder

The SART is a transceiver detectable by X-band radars, so that castaways can be located by ships in the vicinity or by SAR forces.

Due to its characteristics it is considered by many to be the best apparatus destined for safety after the EPIRB and is nonetheless complementary to this, because rescuers have a better perception in approaching castaways.

The SART once activated enters standby mode and when it detects a valid signal coming from an X-band radar, it starts transmitting, sending 12-pulse cycles.

The radar of rescuers identify the castaways through a distinctive line formed by 12 points when the SART is more than 5 miles away. As the ship approaches, the points become more and more extended arcs of circle, to then become concentric circles when the SART is within the radius of a mile.

The standards provide for a minimum battery life of 96 hours in standby and 8 hours in transmission. The SART must be tested once a month, using the test procedure with which each SART is equipped.
where it is mandatory

The SART is part of the mandatory equipment on ships subject to the GMDSS system.

2 SARTs are required on ships over 500 GRT, while only one unit on ships between 300 GRT and 500 GRT.

In addition, a passenger SART is required on passenger ships for each life raft, in this case the SART is built specifically for this user.

GD10 is able to detect fuel vapors (gasoline, naphtha and LPG) and emits an alarm sound when these exceed 25% of the concentration required for an explosion. The box is attractive and well finished with minimum dimensions (104 x 70 x 40 mm). The GD10 uses switch technology to absorb only 0.1 Amps at 12 Vdc.
an example of SART:
