In the 1920's, eugenics, the "science" of breeding, and sterilization were both highly discussed medical topics.

Eugenics, as explained by researchers and medical professionals of the time, is the practice of good breeding. Medical professionals used sham science to identify genetically inherited disorders within patients. Using this newfound "knowledge", certain undesirables were forcibly sterilized in order to promote "good breeding."

A school teacher, John Scopes, was found guilty for illegally teaching the theory of evolution in his classroom. The case was named State vs. John Scopes and whether evolution should be taught or not was argued on both sides. The case led to a deeper meaning on religion and intellect, and shaped science to what it is today.

The Harlem Homes that unveil the reality of the '20s.

Harlem- the big exciting core of new activities, ideas, and music, located in a section of Manhattan, New York- was the topic of discussion for everybody in the 1920s, regardless of class, race, ethnicity, or gender. This extravagant atmosphere was visible in almost every style of entertainment which originated in the place, and yet the houses many locals lived in, failed to show that same fantastic enthusiasm which many scholars fantasized about. WEB DuBois, famous African-American civil-rights activists, went on to describe just how disordered the houses were. He told stories of how crowded the tenements were, how there was no privacy, and how there were even places for public commercial "relief." This fact goes to show just how crazy the 20s really were, how everything seemed so alive and yet underneath the cloak, the livelihood was decaying.
