For the final trip of the year me and my group decided to take the rest of the class to Emma Bridgewater. The trip was highly educational in the short period of time that we were there for. Emma Bridgewater is a pottery based business that specialises in specially designed pottery. The company itself was formed back in 1985, the idea of the business came from when she was trying to buy a gift for her mothers birthday and she decided to buy her some pottery and she didn't like how bland it was so she decided to paint and add design to it herself. it was from this that she saw a gap in the market for fine painted pottery. After this idea she then ventured to stoke to form Emma Bridgewater from having 30 staff at the time she now has over 300 with an annual turn over of around 19 million. The tour guide around the factory was really informative and very interesting. I personally feel that the trip went really well considering I had less than a week to sort it out due to some difficulties in our group we nearly didn't have a trip at all. The original plan was to go to either Cadburys world or Alton Towers but due to matters out of our own hands this was not possible. As a group we came together and decided to go with Emma Bridgewater and fund it ourselves at a price of £2.50 per head this was very affordable and thanks to the location we did not have to worry about transport as it was jut up the road from the university.
if I could go back and do anything different I would come up with a better idea from the start that was easier and more affordable than Alton towers and something that could hopefully have more relevance to the course.

For my final trip of the year, today we attended a trip to Emma Bridgewater. This is a Factory based in Stoke On Trent which built pottery to be shipped across the country and worldwide. The industry was established in 1985, founded by emma rice. Emma started this industry due to buying her mothers present and not being able to find the correct pottery wear to give her as a gift. She felt the market was very small so therefore began to build up this industry. she is now turning over around about 19,000,000 pounds a year. The plates cups and tableware are all hand made and designed free hand to make them very unique, this is why they can be very unique to each person and be very sentimental.

I felt the trip was very educational and has given me a very good insight on how to run a business in that industry. I believe this trip was very well organised even though we had some minor issues organising the trip.

On my first trip with university i took a tour of the famous Emma Bridgewater Factory. Emma Bridgewater herself came to Stoke-on-Trent in 1985 where she made her first piece of pottery. In 1996 herself and Husband moved production to a Victorian pot bank which is located on Lichfield Street, Hanley. Initially she had around 30 employees but has grown massively and now employs over 500 staff and has a annual turnover of around 19 million. I found this experience very educational as i had never visited before, we went on to see where and how they made the clay. Every piece of pottery is all hand made which is what makes Emma Bridgewater so unique and their designs are constantly changing to keep up with customer demand. Seeing the whole factory has helped me see just how successful this business is and is still growing every year. I feel the whole experience was very interesting which has gone on to give me a better incite on how this particular industry is thriving in the every changing market.

On the organised trip, the group attended a guided tour around the Emma Bridgewater factory. A famous pottery factory and also a competitor to the Wedgewood brand however they do focus on different types of pottery. It was interesting to see the difference with the two factories and even though they are in the same industry, the methods of achieving the final product differ slightly. This makes the products unique and gives it the unique selling point required to be an affective product. following this trip I have learnt that even companies and businesses who sell the same product just with different variations can work in a number of ways to achieve the product and it isn't always a set way for it to be done.

Following the trip earlier today at Emma Bridgewater, I learned some interesting facts about the pottery factory. Emma Bridgewater began in 1985 after Emma tried and failed to find a birthday present for her mum, Emma discovered there was a gap in the market for pottery and made some of her own designs. From then on, her name got bigger each year and today Emma Bridgewater has a 19 million a year turnover. The Emma Bridgewater factory is based on Lichfield street in Hanley and they make and sell pottery such as biscuit ware, mugs, pots and other personalised pottery. During the visit we had a factory tour, I really enjoyed this and I would visit again in the future. It was a very educational experience because the tour was very detailed and we got to see how the pottery art was created step by step. It has given me a very good insight on how this industry is improving. In addition to this, I thought the trip was well organised even though we organised it in a short space of time. Also, I personally thought every one of the students will take some useful knowledge away from this educational visit.

Emma Bridgewater is based in Stoke on Trent, the heart of pottery and ceramics in Staffordshire founded in 1985. Emma Bridgewater is well-known company for the high-quality, unique design and tradition of producing ceramics.

As a ceramics industry is specialised in ceramics tableware. They are offering a variety of tableware produced in traditional way and sets of plates for different occasions. Emma Bridgewater is a place where you can buy unique mug or bowl for a special occasion. As I know from Jane’s lectures the history of Emma Bridgewater started when Emma tried and failed to find a special present for her mum's birthday. Then in her mind, an idea for running her own business was born because there was a gap in the market.. In the beginning, she employed about 30 employees, but today employs around 500 employees and makes Emma one of the largest employers of potters in the area. When I knew some facts from Jane's lectures about Emma Bridgewater it was more interesting for me. The factory tour was really enjoyed. There was also a shop in the factory where you could buy their hand-made products, but they were not the cheapest ones.

It was a highly educational trip and made me start thinking more about this business like the production of ceramics with the unique design, the shop in the factory and online shop and annual turnover of 19 million. I saw the process of producing step by step, and the final product that a customer can buy which made a huge impression on me.

Our last reflection trip as a group, we went to the factory in Hanley, Stoke- On- Trent called 'Emma Bridgewater'. Emma Bridgewater started in 1985 and is ran by a woman called Emma Rice.

Their products are mostly done by hand, however, all the pieces are individually painted by hand. People that prefer personalised products can also be sorted out. Emma Bridgewater makes items from Mugs to pet Bowls.

Overall, it was an interesting trip learning about how they make their products and how it is decorated. They had beautiful displays everywhere, however, it was too expensive to purchase.

Unfortunately I was not able to attend the organised trip due to prior commitments, however I attended on another day and found that 'Emma Bridgewater' was interesting and insightful. The company was started in 1985 and is based in Stoke-on-Trent, and they specialise in ceramic pottery, the company is run by Emma Rice. My group and I had organised the Wedgwood trip and I was interested to find out how the two would compare against each other, as they both are solely ceramic based. Wedgwood I felt deals in a more high end product where everything is unique and the prices reflect it, where as Emma Bridgwater is more commercial, expensive also but not as expensive as Wedgewood, Both companies have their unique selling points and I enjoyed learning about the process in which the pottery was made.

The factory itself produces everything from start to finish. The company focusses on mainly commercial pottery for example mugs and plates.

It was a educational trip in terms of learning about the process pf how the pottery is made. if i was to go again i would definitely take more photos so i could use them to write about in my reflections.
