Realise the networks in the Art World? Learn the inside tracks?

How can artists stay true to their beliefs when making professional choices? This card game "Surviving the Art World" invites players to reflect on their relationships with different organizations, events, and individuals within the ecosystem of the "Art World", and to discover their own path to success.

In "Newbies Edition", players will simulate the career of an artist: renting a shared studio, participating in exhibitions, searching for part-time job, applying for funding, and posting on social media platforms such as Instagram. At the same time, they must equip themselves and get involved into various art projects, seeking to collect energy points and artwork cards, in order to make a name for themselves in the art world.

Game Rules

1) Before the start, each player get 15 energy points and 3 artwork cards firstly. Those will be used to reponse the instructions on the action cards. When the energy points are used up, the player must exit the game.

2) Before the start, the square board "Surviving the Art World" shall be placed in the centre of the game table. All players work together to connect the sqare board and other gray rectangular boards into a circular path.

3) During the game, each player takes turns to roll the dice and advance the number of board indicated by the roll. Then the player draws one action card that corresponds to the icon on the board. Finally, the player completes the instructions on the card

4) During the game, the player must immediately exit the game if s/he runs out of energy points. Alternatively, players can negotiate rules for his/her immediate resurrection, such as exchanging 7 energy points for 1 artwork card.

5) Outcome. Highest energy points one player get, the victory the player is.

Scenario 1: when a player gets 7 artwork cards and has more than 1 energy points, s/he becomes the winner and the game ends.

Scenario 2: the player who get the highest amount of artwork cards is the winner when the game ends within a designated time frame.

6) Sharing the victory: The winning player selects five action cards from their hand and arranges them in a row to create a story of a rising artist's growth.

7) Variety of the rules: it can be altered by all players through negotiation. For example, all players may start with 30 energy points before the game begins. Any new or modified rules must be agreed upon by all participants.
