Independent Press Standards Organisation. IPSO are the regulators for the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. IPSO make sure to hold newspapers and magazines to account for their actions. They also make sure to uphold high standards of journalism, protect individual rights and help to maintain freedom of expression for the press. 

Editors' Code of Practice

Accuracy
This means that the journalists and editors must make sure that when publishing information or images etc. they must make sure that it is not misleading or distorted. This also means that headlines need to have relations to the text.

Harassment
Journalists must not persist in questioning, telephoning etc. if an individual has refused to answer already. When they are asked to leave, they must listen and not trespass onto private property. Editors must ensure that this does not happen and be sure of where they get their material from.

Hospitals
Journalists must make sure to have permission if wanting to access non public areas of a hospital. They also must identity themselves and state who they are represented by.

Discrimination
Journalists must make sure to avoid prejudicial or pejorative references to an individual's race, colour, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness. Editors will have to make sure that any materials they use do not use discriminatory language.

Intrusion into grief or shock
When reporting a case that involves personal grief or shock, the journalists and editors must make sure to be considerate. They must make sure that any enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion.
