On September 1, 1939, Germany launched a blitzkrieg, a rapid and overwhelming military attack, against Poland. German forces, led by Adolf Hitler, quickly overran Polish defenses, and the Soviet Union invaded from the east on September 17th. This pincer movement led to the swift fall of Poland by early October.<br><br></p>]]></description>
