These would need to reflect international and varied cultural perspectives.
I will not be able to make these changes alone. There would be a lot of stakeholders involved and this would definitely be a long-term strategy.

My plan to implement international-mindedness in my classroom/ school is :

- To create a book club in which students get the opportunity to choose the book we'd read together as a class (if this goes well, than a whole school book club can also be created) . The only criteria is that every month, the book chosen must have characters belonging to different countries. I believe that this can be achieved in the after school activity time.
- Incorporation of a unit under' How we express ourselves' in which we look at art from different parts of the world. Such as the artwork of Banksy or going through the poems of Rabindranath Tagore.
- Holding an 'International Day' event along the lines of 'a mini Global Village' where children can set up stalls for different countries and serve cuisines of different countries, national games could be played etc. Parents can also be involved in this event. A lot of planning will have to go into this event, and the entire school community will have to come together.

How will you know if it is working ?

A way to know if this is working is to take regular feedback from parents and students via surveys.

1)Can you make this change alone? No, change has to be adopted across the school. In our school we do celebrate festivals from different countries and religion For example we celebrate:- Diwali, Onam, Halloween, Christmas, Eid, etc…We can celebrate International Day. We can encourage all parents, students and teachers to wear their costumes which could represent their ethnics and countries. Food and drinks are shared, all kinds of music from all over the world are played. 2)Who might you need to collaborate with? Every other week or two stands in the name of another country. I need to collaborate with all subject teachers. I can ask parents to join the class for a talk. 3)Is this a short-term strategy or a long-term strategy? All these activities would be a long term strategy by collaboration of teachers, specialist teachers, parents & teaching assistants.. 4)How will you know it is working? – The feedback from students and their parents would be the first sign of being on a right way. Other Grade Teachers can review and give feedback.

I can contribute towards encouraging International Mindedness amongst the students I facilitate and also the colleagues I interact with. When I live, breathe and model international mindedness, it is likely to influence others around me as well, even if vicariously. However, this is short- term and restricted to those I communicate with.

For international mindedness to be steeped deeply and on a larger scale for long term, all stakeholders of the learning community need to have clarity regarding the same, speak the same language of international mindedness to make it systemic as the culture and mindset adopted and ‘lived’.

The school Mission, Vision, Policies, Vertical and Horizontal Curricula, Scope and Sequences, Assessments, Pedagogy- all need to weave in International Mindedness into them as an inherent and integral part. For this, the School Management and Senior Leadership Team need to make long term decisions to foster International Mindedness.

Over the years, we shall see the students, staff, parents- all stakeholders exhibiting being empowered, global and internationally minded citizens.

In school we can follow some of the following strategies to embed international-mindedness in our students. These strategies could be followed by the learning community to ensure the same.

· Celebrating International Food Day – this celebration would be a like a fun-fair wherein children can bring enjoy international cuisines and learn about the food choices of the global community.

· Sharing Day in class – On a smaller scale the children in the classroom can have a sharing day and they would be asked to bring their country or city’s special dish and children can share their food with one another. This way they will show respect and appreciation for each other’s food choices.

· Culture Day – This would be yet another learning engagement for the children to represent their own culture, they can come dressed in their local attire and speak about their culture or perhaps do a dance or sing, whichever form they want to communicate about their culture and children will learn about the global community.

· Grandparent’s Day – This is one day we celebrate in our school where we show our care and respect for our grandparents. They walk into their grandchildren’s classrooms and surprise them with their motivational stories, giving a glimpse of their culture and history.

· Story Time – This could be another very interesting strategy to embed international-mindedness in children. School could arrange parents to come and read in their own language and then translate the same to the students or could read them stories about different settings.

· Author’s Visit – An author’s visit could be arranged by school and if possible famous authors from over the world could virtually meet the students and share about their life.

This would be a long-term strategy where these days and visits should keep happening in rotations so that children look forward to them. I do believe that it is the responsibility of each member of the school community to ensure that things work and each child develops international-mindedness.

Fostering International Mindedness 1.	Celebrating International significant days – World Wildlife Day, World Health Day, International Earth Day, International Family Day, International Food Day- This kind of international days can raise open mindedness towards other cultures and traditions.2.	Celebrating International Heroes from various fields – Freedom fighters, Sportsmen, Scientists, Inventors, Artists etc - children start valuing the contribution made by such incredible people from across the world and taking the pride in being a part of the world. 3.	Reading/listening to stories from around the world – This way children get to know about various cultures and start respecting the similarities and differences.4.	Celebrating International Language days – French Day, English Day etc. This will help to promote the awareness of language, cultural diversity and multilingualism all across the world.5.	Inviting people from other countries to address children – Children will be open to people from different parts of thew world and will respect and will be keen to meet more people and know more about people from around the world. 6.	School trips to other countries can help children explore new cultures and countries.7.	Watching movies, listening to songs and learning dances from other countries will make children more interested in knowing about other countries.8.	Children could be asked to learn how people greet each other in different languages and share any one fact about any country they wish to visit.9.	A day marked when children are asked to come dressed in the national dress of any country of their choice can help students understand other cultures and traditions.
