The Romantic period took place in 1800-1860 and it was the development and expansion of imagination and individualism in literature. What was so important about romanticism was that the Romantics valued feelings over reason and logic like the power of imagination, individual spirit, and the beauty of the natural world. The believes of romanticism was different from deism because it was a cultural movement instead of a political one. There were two groups of romantics, Transcendentalism and Dark Romantics. Transcendentalism writers focused on trying to discover the truth by seeing beyond the physical world and seek out the ideal world. Dark Romantics focused on the conflicts between good and evil, effects of guilt, and dark underside of appearances.

11th Grade Literature Book (pgs. 204-209; 215)
