_{A special coin once stolen from a shady auction, imbued with an unknown power that provides random odds and short-lived abilities brought about by varying degrees of luck. After having triggered it once by accident, the coin has since then tethered itself to Sohee like an invisible string.}

_{Despite its unpredictable outcomes, Sohee has made no move to abandon the mysterious item, of which he had aptly named the 'Coin of Whimsy'. He's convinced it was now bound to him by curse, as he had once tried to get rid of it, only to find the coin back in his pocket the next day.}

_{The Coin of Whimsy can only do so much, and its luck is not absolute. Like how it may save the user from death, but will not prevent injuries or illnesses from happening, especially if self-inflicted. While the coin does keep its owner from experiencing misfortune as often as others do, it won't magically make them immune to getting hurt.}

_{The Coin of Whimsy's luck and other powers cannot be given to or shared with another person. Although being around it may influence certain odds, ultimately, the coin will only really benefit its owner. Any good or bad thing that happens to other people is purely because of association.}

_{Besides a passive ability that lessens its owner's chances of misfortune, the Coin of Whimsy only really works in the presence of odds or risks, otherwise it does nothing. It does not have to be an incredibly high risk, but the coin still needs to read some sort of odds before it can provide any outcome.}

_{Not much is known about Sohee's teenage life, but there have been numerous reports of a swift blond-haired thief causing trouble around the city.}

_{For the sake of not letting himself starve out on the streets, Sohee first resorted to theft. No money? No problem. There was probably a convenience store somewhere down the street that had what he needed.}

_{Given his choice of survival, a good portion of his life was spent learning how to vault up walls, to hang from ledges, or risk his life attempting escape maneuvers only possible in movies. Sohee liked to chalk it up to natural talent, but even he didn't know how his body had gotten to this point of suspicious invincibility.}

_{Maybe something in his DNA had kicked in as he grew older. Instinct? Desperation? Was it the heavens finally looking out for him? Or maybe that weird shiny thing in the sky that made the news so long ago?}

_{Hell, Sohee couldn't even read by then. But it probably didn't matter anyway.}

_{Whatever it was — perhaps it was the only explanation to the odd heat he would feel in his chest after running for so long, making it across the skyline in just over a minute. Impressive, if it weren't for the fact that he felt like a machine just moments away from overclocking.}

_{So maybe he was just overthinking the entire thing, being hopeful that something special had happened to ordinary little him and his unfortunate human life.}

_{Many would have said it was luck, the way he was still alive and well, but Sohee felt like whatever stupid luck he carried in him was kind of flawed. A little unstable even.}

_{For his peace of mind, he had to force himself to care less.}

_{He couldn't spend forever thinking about things that could have been.}

_{Given Sohee's rash and reckless behavior, it didn't really take that long for authorities to look into him properly.}

_{But since they couldn't even dream of catching him by normal means, they attempted to disguise their capture as an offer, a ploy which Sohee had seen right through, but willingly let himself be dragged into because, well... money was involved.}

_{And paid him, they did. Although Sohee didn't recall an officer pointing a gun at his head as part of the agreemeent. But whatever. Safety first, he supposed.}

_{Fortunately for the wayward boy, hurting him was never really the law's intention. If anything, they'd suspected his very source of power to be incredibly turbulent, and worried that he lacked the appropriate mental strength to keep using it.}

_{For the most part, their exchange on the matter had been rather peaceful, but ultimately led to the fact that Sohee would soon be taken away from his hometown in favor of getting put into a specialized university built to handle people like him.}

_{So even though he felt like he was giving up most of his freedom walking through Vindicate's doors (not that they really gave him a choice), there was a comforting warmth radiating from the coin in his pocket that made him believe that things would be all right.}

_{Maybe a flip to check the odds wouldn't hurt.}

_{For years, he'd moved from simple thievery to accepting odd jobs from shady individuals. As long as they paid what they promised and kept their hands off of him, Sohee had no trouble laying his cards out on the table.}

_{Though his offenses towards fellow citizens were small and insignificant on the surface, many business owners feared this unusual bravery from a kid would influence other youth to attempt the same things.}

_{Unfortunately for them, Sohee was suspiciously adept at evading the law, perhaps stemming from a burning refusal to be bested by authority.}

_{But in reality, his ability to constantly steer clear from the consequences of his actions came from the mysterious coin he'd decided to snag on a whim during one of his thieving escapades.}

_{The coin did not seem to be of any nation's currency, devoid of any numbers or official reliefs. Instead, it had the image of a one-eyed cat with a wide, sharp-toothed grin on one side, and another one-eyed cat with a big frown on the other.}

_{Whatever the heck it was, it seemed beneficial enough to have around — a lucky charm of sorts — allowing Sohee the liberty of fucking around and not having to find out.}
