2. If student is referred for multiple minor offenses (level 1 or level 2) then we will:
  • Remove student from class for a short amount of time
  • Reset student by talking to them and/or calling their parents
  • Return them to class
    • Students should be welcomed back to class once they have been disciplined
    • Refrain from continuing to antagonize or chastising the child
    • Remember, we have handled the situation. (You risk triggering the student on a incident that was already resolved.)
3. Level 3 and 4 offenses are handled by administration. DO NOT CODE ANYTHING FOR LEVEL 4 IN PS UNLESS IT MEETS THE CRITERIA PER THE CODE OF CONDUCT. 
  • For any level 3 or 4 offenses, you will receive an email from Dean Kwesi if those offenses result in disciplinary action
  • These offenses generally result in the following disciplinary actions
    • Restorative conversation (student-student)
    • Community Service
    • Detention (After-School)
    • In-school Intervention (ISI)
    • ISS (In-school suspension)
    • OSS (Out of school suspension)

* Student A took a vape from home and brought it to school
  • Student A gave the vape to Student B, who is also in 3rd grade
  • Student B passed the vape around in his class
  • Teacher reported the issue to Principal Johnson and vape was confiscated
  • All students were removed from class as admin got to the bottom of the issue
This is a serious situation because it does involve minors possessing and distributing a tobacco product

STILL....
  1. Admin/Behavior team was bound by parameters set in code of conduct and had to follow them
  2. Vaping for any grade level is a Level 1 or Level 2 offense
  3. Parents were contacted and students returned to class

YOU CAN HELP BY...
  • Familiarize yourself with the levels of responses so that you are not surprised when students are brought back to class
  • Speak up! Share your concerns about the current parameters/responses outlined in the COC when given the opportunity
