Due to Victor's own self hatred, the monster he created becomes dejected from both his creator and society creating an unstable and violent being that because of his nature of dejection the reader can also empathize with. Victor Frankenstein’s troubled nature throughout the book causes him to lash out onto his own creation, and cast out what he calls "Devil" as he furiously shouts," Do you dare approach me?...Begone, vile insect!"(Shelley 68). The newly created monster unaware of what it feels to be loved develops into a jealous and violent creature out to seek revenge on Victor due to his lack of upbringing and acceptance into society. This course of action exemplifies the repercussions of dejection by heightening the severity of the violence taking place; however, because of the monster’s own thoughts the reader can empathize with the monster’s inner turmoil of self hatred inflicted because of Victor’s maltreatment. Since Victor reacted negatively to the monster, he only understands the feeling of rejection, and due to that rejection he feels as if he was "hideously deformed and loathsome" even considering himself to be "not even of the same nature as man"

Aldous Huxley contrasts the two societies within Brave New World in order to provide a commonality through the feelings of those defective to conditioning demonstrating that human nature remains the same throughout all societies. Throughout Huxley's novel, he creates defective characters that were unaffected by conditioning. Bernard, a defective alpha, sees through the cracks of the society he lives in, and seeks to change it by going to the Pueblo (another society seen as savage by Bernard's society) to experience the other half's lives. Due to Bernard's lack of self esteem he becomes power hungry, and left feeling dejected. Bernard feels different from the others just like Ben, the son of a woman trapped in the Pueblo though she originates from Brave New World, and the two bond over their differences from others in their respective societies. This leads to Bernard exploiting Ben as a savage for his people to gawk at. These actions demonstrate the idea that dejections and the fear of dejection causes people to react maliciously in order to feel accepted and/or superior to the ones who dejected to
