  • Accommodation: A child learns what a Hippo really is and realizes the differences between a Hippo and an Elephant
  • Assimilation: A child thinking a stuffed elephant was a hippo
  • Assimilation and Accommodation are related because a child will use prior schemata to assimilate new knowledge; and once they realize the differences their schema will be modified. 
  • Disequilibrium: The child sees that the elephant is grey like a hippo and fat like a hippo but has a long nose and big ears. The child cannot fit this new information into what they already know.
  • Equilibrium: When the child learned that a Hippo is not an Elephant and they have many differences.
  • Equilibration: The child has a sense of balance knowing the new things about elephants and old things about  hippos.
  • These are all related because they all contribute to a process of building knowledge.
