Factors that helped the Northeast become a center of commerce

There were several factors that contributed to the Northeast becoming a center of commerce. In the Nineteenth Century, Families made money from selling goods they made such as food and clothing. After industrialization, people spent their money on other goods. Farmers switched from self- sufficiency to specialization. The implementation of this new method of production lead to the Market Revolution; People bought and sold goods rather than making them. Inventor entrepreneurs began to develop goods to make life more comfortable for a great population of people. The entrepreneurial spirit and the quickening pace of the U.S. economic growth depended on capitalist developments such as factories, machines, and land. The new inventions made in the U.S. contributed immensely to changes in American life including impacts on communication and transportation. Samuel F.B. Morse created the telegraph in 1837, connecting the larger cities on the east coast. Farmers and manufacturers both looked for better, faster, and more efficient ways to ship their goods to the market. These new ways became essential in making agricultural and industrial marketing bigger and better. Heavy investments in canals and railroads transformed the northeast into the center of American commerce. The most striking development of the era, however, was the extravagant emergence of manufacturing.

Economic Differences in the Past and Present

In the past, the USA was extremely divided in terms of economic differences. Because the Northeast region had a cold climate and infertile land, farming was difficult. This resulted in an industry focused on manufacturing. Large successful factories rose up in this region due to the large production demand and the exposure to water, making it an ideal area to produce and ship goods. However, in the South, the climate was warmer and the land was more fertile, making it a perfect place to grow crops. As a result, the South became the epitome of agriculture in the USA. These major differences in methods of gaining profit and the unique ideals of the people caused a division to arise during the 19th century.
This division is still present today since geographical differences still exist, even on smaller scales. In the state of California, Silicon Valley is a region whose industry is based on business and manufacturing. It is located in the Southern part of the bay area, a place with access to the bay and the ocean. Meanwhile, the Central Valley area is located in between the Sierra Nevada and the California Coast Ranges. This area is slightly warmer due to its distance from the water but the low elevation prevents it from being too hot or dry. Clearly, the division between business and agriculture still exists, even on a smaller scale.
However, this division actually unifies our country in that the regions complement each other. Some regions focus on farming and others on manufacturing, so each region can do what it does. The economic differences actually create a balance between the 2 different economic structures, therefore the regions' differences unifies our country.
