05.03.18
For this project, I chose to collect different types of patterns. Although the forms and elements repeat themselves several times, each pattern has its own particularity. The idea of this theme arose when I was thinking of something that could easily grab people's attention. I believe that when things are organized and displayed with a systematic and symmetrical aesthetic, we tend to look more at it and it gets quickly recorded in our memory. From the moment I started taking the photos, I began to observe even more things around me and I realized how many types of patterns we can find out there. Today in class, the activity helped me to put all the different patterns together, and the way I put the photos on the wall reminded me a lot of a mosaic. I really liked how the colors interacted with each other and the final result.

06.03.18
In today's class, we had to do an activity related to our collections. The task consisted of drawing our collection at different angles and using different drawing techniques. I decided to draw mine the exactly way I was looking at the wall. I also chose to use a different technique for each one of the patterns. I used, for example, ink, watercolor, pen, pencil, collage, papers and strings. However, I confess that it was very laborious and tiring to do it because it took a lot of time and effort. In addition, as Sol passed through my desk, she gave me feedback that I could have drawn the patterns on a different scale. So, I picked the one with a white background and black lines and drew in a size that occupied the entire page. It was a much better way of executing this activity and if I could change something, I would definetly have done this from since the beginning: I would have chosen some of the patterns and would have drawn them on a larger or smaller size, on different pages. Finally, I had a lot of fun and I was able to develop several art techniques using different materials during this process.

07.03.18
1.
My first decision was to separate the photos of the different patterns into groups according to colors. I also thought about leaving them all glued to the wall. However, later then, I decided to change everything. I thought that if I left the patterns on the same background as before, it would not be fun at all. So, I put the photos in the order they were taken in one of the room’s windows. It looked pretty nice because I created some kind of a pattern using the distincts patterns I collected and as the photos were on the glass, other patterns from outside the class, like the building on the back, could interact with my collection.
2.
Another way I thought about exposing my collection was by using strings. As we went an open space at the mesanino, I thought to take advantage of the wind. As I had 30 different pattern photos, I cut 5 pieces of string, fixed them on the ceiling and glued 6 photos in each one; three on one side of the string and 3 on the other. And when the wind hit, the strings swayed and created a very cool effect.

All these days have been very important to our creative construction, but, for me, today's task was the most interesting. I displayed my colection and my works at the windows, which was one of the decisions I made on day 3. I really enjoyed the result and it was as I was expecting too. The patterns from outside interected really well with my collection and also, because o the sun, it formes a shadow on the ground creating another pattern. The feedback I gained from my group was really constructive. They understood my idea, the concept of the collection and why I chose to put it where I did and they liked it a lot. I also received tips and opinions of things that I could have done a little differently to get a final result even better, such as using a transpatent tape instead of the crepe tape because, with the sun, they could see some of the marks of the tapes stucked behind the photos.

I made a stencil of my letter, which is “T”, with the newsprint and went to the serigraphy studio. I had never used this technique before, so I was very curious to learn and excited to do. I made several copies, and many of them did not work out as I planned; in some I put in too much paint, and on others I did not position the paper exactly where I wanted it. After many tries, I got a good impression, the way I wanted it to look and I loved the result!

During the afternoon, with Ana, I made other type of impressions using another stencil, made of colored paper, and foam roll and ink. It was very fun and I was able to express my creativity well. This was a quicker and easier process than the one in the morning, so I was able to make several of them.

At first, I did not know how it worked; so, I had on my mind that it was going to be pretty difficult to do this. However, in reality, it was not as complicated as I thought. It was a challenge to find and decide how to stick the cups to turn them into the letter. Since the material was transparent, I had to think hard about what to use to not have an ugly finishing. I wanted to come up with an concept related to my letter. So, I had an idea: T stands for transparency. I thought about many materials I could use and I ended up choosing semi acrilic cups. In my opinion, it worked very well. And, since transpatency is the physical property of allowing the transmission of light through a material, I also put those neon lights to compose and make my 3D letter even more interesting, specially in a dark place.

19.03.18
The Protest Project week has begun and I’m really excited! I really enjoy to discuss important themes, expose my opinions and also hear what people have to say. Nowadays, there’s a lot of going on in the world, a lot of issues that we need to talk about and protest so we can change the situation. There was a list with plenty of words and we were asked to pick 6 of them. There was many themes that I would have like to work on, but empowerment, diversity, democracy, faith, community and peace, for me, are topics that are being widely discussed in our society and need our total attention. After that, we had to pick 3 of those 6 words and do a brainstorm with each one of them. At that moment, I had already made it clear that my protest would be about the sad and revolting execution of Marielle Franco, that why I chose empowerment, diversity and community. By the end of the activity, I noticed that there was one word that fit and described those 3 words: representativeness. And that's what I want to talk about.

It is the tool we use to transmit to others what we think and want to say/protest. It need to represent your theme, to be clear and big enough to be read. The phrase I thought for my poster is A Representative Voice Can Not Be Silent. It has everything to do with what happened to Marielle and is exactly what I want to show: voice like hers will not be shut! After having formulated the phrase, I wrote the word representative in my sketchbook in several different fonts and I already started thinking about how I'm going to make my board.

We exposed our works on the wall, Julia made a big purple band written: Marielle Lives and placed on the balcony of the room, and I edited a small video telling a little of Marielle’s story and actions in our society and the events that preceded her death. We also decided to wear black clothes to symbolize our mourning, and after the video, with a music / poem in honor of Marielle in the background, we dirty our hands with red paint, representing blood, to symbolize our revolt. It was a very emotional moment for me and for everyone who watched it. What happened to this woman was very serious and the subject needs to be discussed!

26.03.18
1. Today, by the morning and in the afternoon, I was designated in a group to do a workshop with Pauline. It was a big pleasure meeting her and learning/listening to what she had to teach. We worked on how to improve our Reflective Journals; by putting more details, explaining deeper our decisions and describing why we did ou did not do what we did. We also took a look on how to have a good and effective research. We all, as a group, concluded that for a good research, it needs to be assessed on the basis of its methodology, originality and relevance and that we can make references and use in our projects.
2. We also watched Cesar’s presentation about his creative process and discussed with our classmates about the 60 pictures we had to take and the 25 old photos we had to have. It was nice to know what each person was thinking when they took them and why the chose those particular pictures.

27.03.18
Today's activity was to create photo filters and a device to put these filters. Yesterday, I had already thought about what my filters might be and I ended up choosing yellow xylofane paper, a piece of white plastic bag with a little transparwncy, and a thin black sock. However, at the time of developing the device, I stayed the first 20 minutes of the class without being able to think of anything and started to get frustrated. So, I decided to research in the internet for some device’s models to inspire me in some way. Minutes after, some ideas started to flow and I made five simple sketches of different devices in my sketchbook. From these five ideas, I chose three as my favorites. In one of them, I glued two bottle caps and cut a space to fit on the cell phone and another hole for the camera. On this device, I chose to put the yellow xylofane filter. In the second one, I took the part of the bottle where it closes with the cap and put the plastic bag with a red tape on it. I aldo cut a piece of yellow elastic to attach the device to my phone. I made this device to put in front of the flash, and the result is very interesting, with colored lights in the corner of the photo. On the third one, I used a roll of tape that had no more tape. I made a small hole in it and I inserted a wood stick to have where to hold the device. Finally, I wrapped the roll with the black sock and the effect it gave was a blur in the photo.

I really enjoyed all the results and I think all of them gave a interresting effect for the pictutes, but the second one is my favorite.

09.04.18
We had the incredible experience of knowing the DADO project: a platform for debate and fomentation of the Brazilian cultural scene. The objective is to stimulate innovative projects and to collaborate in the development of the creative economy. In the morning, we participated in a seminar and in lectures about art with professionals who are alternative examples of implementation and business development in the market, such as Vanessa Carlos, Stefan Benchoam, Livia Benedetti and Vivian Gandelsman.
Vanessa talked about her project, Condo, which has been in London for 3 years. The intention is to create more conditions for artists by calling galleries in the city to receive other galleries, international as well, and works by other artists. Thus, the project encourages community, collaboration and interdependence.
Stefan has a similar project in Guatemala and in Los Angeles one called Ruberta, where there is an space ocuppied by 5 galleries from Ameria Latina. He has also collaborated with Condo, Vanessa’s project.
Livia and Vivian have different projects: both digital.
Livia has a website called Aarea, which is a digital platform for artwork designed for the internet. The invited artists have quite different productions among themselves and respond to the challenge of designing a work whose vehicle is exclusive to the internet. Each work is available on the site for only 1 month, making many works ephemeral.
And Vivian has a website called Artload, a video platform and educational mapping of various artists.
I loved meeting all of them and being able to know about each other's work. It is great to know that now there is a space for students and workers of the artistic world, professionals from the academic world and people engaged in the social process to be heard.

10.04.18
Today, we had an activity called "30 ideas in 30 minutes" that consisted of thinking about 30 different ideas for a zine / video in exactly 30 minutes, timed. I confess that at first I was very frustrated and did not like this exercise at all. I thought that with the pressure of the time, I would not be able to think of anything and would be staring at 30 blank papers. However, as soon as we started, a lot of ideas started popping up in my head. Of course, some were better than the others. In addition, this exercise helped me in many skills, such as quick thinking, creativity and focus. I had to get right to the point, with no time for distractions and long pauses. Besides that, I had several options of themes to choose a favorite. I ended up choosing Feminism and, from there, I did a big research on fanzines decided that I would do a zine on the subject.

The only thing I did not like was that the workshop time was very short and I wish I had learned more things.

In the afternoon, I had the opportunity to talk to Cezar about my zine and think of things like: what area / movement of feminism do I want to focus on, what are my inspirations, what I'm thinking of putting into my project, what characteristics my zine will have, etc. I found it very productive and helped me to clarify these issues.

12.04.18
In the morning, we had a really helpful screen printing workshop with Marcelo. We learned how to record a screen for screen printing. It is a very labor-intensive process that requires a lot of attention, but I loved having this experience because I always imagined that it was a very difficult thing to do, but in reality it isn’t. Now, I can print whatever I want at any time. After the workshop, I wanted to use serigraphy in my zine. So, I started to think in ideas and how I would use it.

During the afternoon, we sat in a circle and shared our concepts with our collegues and our tutors. My concept is to bring knowledge to all those who do not know or still do not have undestand the real meaning of feminism through data, facts and phrases + quotes to empowe women. The focus will be on the Liberal Feminist Movement. I also shared what I wanted my zine to look like, as as using the colors purple, red, black, blue, white and different tons of pink; plus what’s inside, such as posters, collages and the information I want to pass.

Her woodcuts are truly incredible. I found it so interesting that I wanted desperately to learn how to do it and I soon thought of a way to use it in my zine as well. I went to Ana’s workshop and after talking to her about my zine’s theme, she helped me to think and develop my own woodcut. I did a hand to represent women’s fight for their rights. For this work, I used three different pieces of wood. It was a very laborious and time-consuming process but, at the same time, well worth it. I am very happy with my first woodcut and the rescult I came up with.

After I showed her the concept, the two models of my zine and the stickers, Leticia gave me a nice feedback on my project. First, she emphasized the different techniques I used, such as digital, serigraphy and woodcuts. She also told me that the stickers and the digital zines were successful in her opinion and that she thinks that maybe I could improve the zines in which I pasted the digital parts with adhesive paper. However, since she knew I had the problem with the 1st graphic I went, she thought that the solution I came up with was really good and, in general, everything was well made. After that, she said that my narrative was very clear, that it will reach its audience appropriately and that women identify themselves with my work and will like it a lot. When she told me that, I got really happy, because this was my objective and I achieved it! To conclude, she enjoyed I did a deep research on my libetal feminist movement theme and how I showed the gender inequality through datas and informations
