Unifrog has been launched during assembly and tutor time this month - the platform will be used to upload placements and manage communication with the employers.

The deadline for submitting Work Experience forms for High Risk placements is January 30th 2026, all other placement types have a deadline of 31st March 2026.

They learnt about the 60 job roles the RAF has to offer, RAF apprenticeships and the application process. They were also able to ask questions about day to day life in the RAF #noordinaryjob

This meeting gave local employers, schools and supporting partners the opportunity to discuss and champion all of the exciting things that are going on to enhance Careers Education within the Ashfield district and raise aspirations of students 🏆

Each student has a Unifrog log in - if they don't know their log in details then they should have a log in link in their school email inbox.

Tutors will hand out slips on a weekly basis to inform students of when theirs will be.

Ideagen and Nottingham Forest have joined forces to help inspire young people in Nottinghamshire to embrace technology careers.

Their aim is to use the power of football to get young people interested in technology-based jobs as an exciting and rewarding career path.

As well as talking about apprenticeships, A-Levels and college courses, Alex also talked about the benefits that going to university might bring 🎓

Our visiting employers carried out a huge 441 interviews over the two days and were impressed with how confident, polite, and well-prepared our students were throughout. We're incredibly proud of how they represented themselves and the school. 

We also had some great feedback from students:

'It wasn't as scary as I expected. They were really nice and helped me feel less nervous'

'I'll feel more confident going to my interview for college now'

This was an opportunity to see how we can make links with employers to offer our students more encounters with employers.

It was also an opportunity to see how other schools and colleges are delivering their careers curriculum so that we can continue to improve the careers guidance in school

As part of the trip, we also visited West Nottinghamshire College, where students had the chance to programme Dobots and explore real-world applications of robotics within industry. We even saw some budding mechanics in action as they practised changing spark plugs and replacing a set of tyres on a car.

It was a fantastic day of learning and inspiration for our future engineers. These visits are vital in helping students understand the opportunities available to them—right on Ashfield’s doorstep—and in strengthening the link between the careers they aspire to and the curriculum we teach in school.

These meetings are invaluable for discovering what opportunities are available for our students in terms of work experience, apprenticeship opportunities and developments in the area.

Lindum Group the main contractor for the new Automated Distribution & Manufacturing Centre (ADMC) updated on the development and some of the opportunities that this might bring for Ashfield students.

They had the opportunity to speak to over 60 employers from a variety of work sectors, as well as colleges and universities that attended. There was some great engagement and conversations about future career pathways.

They came away with some really useful information to pass on to students and some great ideas on how we can incorporate construction careers into our curriculum.

Students across all groups will receive inspiring information about the range of apprenticeships out there and start to think about the pros of taking up an apprentice at Year 11 or beyond. They'll also be able to hear from a range of local employers that offer apprenticeships in the area.

The project aims to increase awareness of STEM education and career pathways across the district aimed at young people and showing them the opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and maths.

This was a fantastic chance for Year 11 to find out about some of the current STEM apprenticeship opportunities in our area. The students were also encouraged to think about their 'ikigai' or purpose in life.

Students learned how apprenticeships work, where to find them, and the benefits of choosing an apprenticeship as a post-16 pathway.

Year 11 continue to receive their 1:1 careers guidance sessions and Year 10 are making great progress in securing work experience placements.

They learnt a range of painting and decorating skills and gained a City & Guilds qualification in Painting, as well as supporting and giving back to the local community.

Students gained a valuable insight into what apprenticeships are, how they work, and the many benefits they can offer as a future pathway.

Although Post-16 choices may feel a little way off, time moves quickly - and it’s so important that students begin to understand the range of opportunities available to them early on.

Students were given the chance to register for apprenticeships, make a CV and apply for a college course for next steps.

Year 9 will be taking part in a networking event with local employers giving them the opportunity to think about their career aspirations.

Year 10 continue to secure work experience placements which must be logged on their UniFrog account and Year 11 1:1 guidance continues as they move closer to securing their destinations after leaving school.

Students rotated around quick-fire conversations, playing a lively game of “Guess Who?” to uncover each guest’s job role through clues and questions.

The event gave students a fun and informal way to explore different careers, build their confidence, and gain insight into the many pathways available beyond school.

Our guests were incredibly impressed by the thoughtful questions and enthusiasm shown by Year 9 throughout the session.

Students explored why it’s important to start thinking about their future early. They learnt that planning ahead helps keep options open and makes each step towards employment easier and less overwhelming.

Students focused on understanding their career journey by thinking about:

• Where they want to go – identifying possible goals or destinations for the future

• The steps needed to get there – such as choosing subjects, building skills and gaining experience

• How long they have to prepare – recognising that starting early gives them more time to develop and make informed decisions

This will be posted on Show My Homework and sent to students school emails. It is really important that this is completed so that we can offer support where necessary.

✅ Year 7 will be taking part in DANCOP workshops, giving them the opportunity to learn about different industries and the world of work.

✅ Year 8 will be involved in Barclays LifeSkills sessions, supporting them to begin considering their career journey, key skills and future options.

✅ Year 10 continue to secure work experience placements ready for July - placements that are not on the high risk list can still be added.

✅Year 11 continue to secure their destinations ready for their careers journeys to continue following their exams.
