Of course it is filled mostly with discussions and briefings for what we will learn in this course for this semester and not to forget, what activities we will be doing also. With Dr Wan, a semester without lotsa activities? Impossibruhhh. So, the first thing I remember is that Dr Wan said we will do the Virtual Microbe. Again. Not a suprise actually and I kind off didn't mind. It's fun for me because I can actually meet new people from other universities and learn to work with many different people. Of course, didn't hurt when they're being nice and cooperative and friendlyy. Oh, and I'm stoked we will be collaborating with foreign universities also. Helloooo Lafayette. So my expectation for this semester is that it will be no doubt, hectic and tiring. Well, I remembered that at this time Dr Wan is a little bit frustrated because during our lessons, she asked a question and no one can answer. She talks and talk and talk and she thinks that we needed a push, to be more passionate and more curious people! So long story short, she recommended us to watch Temple Grandin. A movie about a woman, idk much but I think Dr said the movie, the woman is very inspiring. Oh and Dr also wants us to get more familiar with journals so she assigned us a task to find any journal that is related with any topic that we choose. Well. So we've learned about bacterias and archaea. Bacteria based on their characteristics which is the gram positive ones, the gram negatives, the bacterias that lack cell walls and of course, archaea. So, in order to make us more familiar and have a better understanding on the subject, Dr Wan assigned sub-topics to each group and my group got phyla crenarchaeaota and basically, each group can use what ever way they want such as presentations, mind maps and etc. to make the whole class to understand about the sub topics a little much easier. So archaea. Well. I find it a very fantastic thing. I mean. Wow. So in the fourth week, the lessons is about fungi. To be honest, i am prejudiced towards fungi. I mean, they scares me. All the spores. I absolutely become the most paranoid person when we experimented with fungi in the lab. I don't even know how many times I sprayed alcohol on my hands and my things. Eventhough it will pointless for the spores but well, safety in knowing that at least I've tried. Haha. So we still learn the basics about fungi. About their types, groups. The characteristics which make them different from other organisms. Which is they are saprophytic. Nevertheless, eventhough I kinda not like them, cannot live without them. I mean, penicillin? Yeah. One to INTI college and one to yakult. Wellll actually theres so much I want to say and babble and talk buttt ohmy so lazy to type. Okay here goes. So for the yakult part. Wow me and my friends are so excited. Except Bsya hahaha with extreme 'poyoness' she says she have gone there during the foundation studies but well, I'm sure it'll be different because this time, she came as a microbiology student. Haha so we arrived there and suprise, suprise, pictures first. Heres an attach picture below luls. So upon arrival, we are shown to a meeting like room and the yakult's representatives gave a little talk about yakult. I am ashamed to admit this but I never known about probiotics. I mean, I know that bacteria exists in probiotic drinks but like, it never registered in my brain you know? That we actually, willingly drinking bacterias haha the shirota strain.So the representative talks about all the benefits about this bacteria and all, it helps with improving our health, our digestive systems, it is basically an 'extra' help to our already present bacterias that exist in the gut. After her talk, she lead us to the 'backstage' of the yakult factory and we can see how they produce all the yakult. She showed so many rooms, and then their products. There are actually mana products that yakult produce and not just their drink. When we arrived at INTI which is located in Negeri Sembilan, we are forwarded to a seminar room and to hear a talk. I vaguely remembered the title is about the microbial resistance and how surgeons perceived it. Okay first let's talk about superbug. They are scary. Fun fact: I hate getting sick. Loathe them. Everytime I got sick, I treated all my medicines like the freaking holy grail and what? Now I'm hearing that there's a chance that the medicine won't work? Because wow, it's not enough that the bacterias can cause sickness, but they're resistant to medicines too? (hard to kill). I can't even- okay. So that's what I felt when I first heard about superbugs. Sooo back to INTI, it was informative, though a very short talk. It's interesting to hear what the surgeons think about this phenomenon, from their point of view. One of the few informative things was on how and what we can do to reduce the occurrence of this phenomenon and such. After the talk, theres lotsa game outside and we participated of course. Side note: for my virtual microbe group for Lafayette, we've chosen an amoeba which is called Naegleria fowleri and did you know, if it inserts your body, it goes to your brain and actually eats it? Yeah, a freaking zombie and a very terrifying one because they attack silently, creeping...eating..your brain...without any warning. Hmmm, ecology is not exactly my forte, but I tried to keep an open mind about this topic. So. Principles of ecology, we learned about the ecology of the microbes, the role of them in our ecosystems and all. And, homeostasis. Homeostasis is a very relative subject, because it states that we can only achieve homeostasis if all the things that exist in our world is balanced. So the topic is about aspects of biotechnology. Subject of interest: so Dr Irwan asked us, if we have the means and power to control the direction of biotechnology, what will we focused on? Some answered climate change, foods, medicines. But for me? I answered agriculture. So hear me out, plants are important. They gives us sweet oxygen, they're our foods, our medicine, our beauty products and I even believe they will reduce the global warming that is making our planet flike an inferno so they. are. everything. So of course, if agriculture is advanced, it will affect everything right? But then, it got me thinking, plants cant even survive if the climate changes is all screwed up. So does this means we need to focus on climate change? At the end, my brain hurts and I concluded that we need to be fair and focus on everything because one cant live without the other and every aspect is equally important. Bam. So on this week, it is mainly focused on our 3MT presentation and wow am I nervous. I talked about the Geobacter spp. which can actually generate electricity. It is simply amazing. With the presence of this microbe, we can even turn plain soil  into our source of energy. Simply amazing. Sooooo, it was fun while it lasted.
